I don't care, as long as it's not that Taiwanese wanker with the big nose that I see everywhere I go, whoring his face on anything from powderised coffee to watches

Ithink I know who you are talking about!! His plastic fake face is everywhere. Kinda annoying.

Hoping to see Jeremy Lin in March when I go to the states.
I'm a winner

You probably know him. I don't know his name and don't want to know it. He's on billboards and in metro stations and on xiang piao piao powderised drinks. Truly a whore if ever there was one.

Hopefully he does not become a Chinese version of Tim Tebow as a Christian idol.....You will see him in the NBA All Stars (from China online votes) from next year on, if he deserves or not still to be decided but I think at least he plays better then Yao Ming who was just mainly tall.

So why did he suddenly become so famous? Honestly I had never heard of the guy before this week.

It's kind of a great story, actually. He's a 6'3 (short for the NBA) Asian kid who got no athletic scholarships from big schools so he decided to attend Harvard. He dominated while there but went undrafted. He has been kicking around the D-leagues and team practice squads for a few years until a slew of injuries to the New York Knicks allowed him to start a game. Now, the Knicks are in America's #1 media market and they were supposed to be good this year but both their selfish, athletically superior stars couldn't bring them wins.

Both stars were out at the same time, in steps Lin and now they've won 6 straight. He has scored the most points of any player of all time over his first six starts, and he has had several game-winning shots, including a 3-pointer at the buzzer today.

Everyone is still kinda writing him off (waiting for the other shoe to drop, kinda like Tebow) but I just love how tongue tied these 'experts' get when game after game he succeeds based on his smarts and instincts rather than raw athleticism (the NBA has basically turned into a dunk-league). Now, will he always be this successful? Of course not. But it looks like he could be a legitimate starting point guard on a decent NBA team, with flashes of greatness. Is he CP3? Probably not. But he sure looks good now.

Exactly! He never played before this week. And now he averages 27 points and 9-10 assists in the last 6 games, for 6 wins. Including 38 points against the Lakers and a clutch performance with a 3-point winner last night. Mind you, the Knicks rarely won before.

what do you mean y? did you even watch one of his games? he stepped up like mad, scored like 30 points and double double on nearly every game and gave knicks 5 W's when 2 of the best players are injured and not playing. He's a asian -american guy that dominated the game (in the last few games) putting up jordan-esque figures (50%+ shooting average, 30+ points, 8-10 assists ect) all the while playing smart, shooting smart, passing smart....

he's an awesome player and finally got the spot light to shine on him....that is y....

He is American. Just like I'm not English even though my ancestors came from England. I'm American. And I'm proud that the best Asian basketball player in the world in an American - and I'm guessing it has something to do with the culture of our country. I mean, we probably have .01% of the Asian population of China, and tens of million fewer who play basketball regularly, and yet we could probably put together an Asian-American team that would wipe the floor with the Chinese national team. Ha!

Not true when China already bought players like Marbury and soon to be Iverson.

8 turnovers today. He's talented, but has a LONG way to go before he can be considered elite.

Marbury had two choices; retire or play overseas. Ditto Iverson. No team wants them, even at a veterans minimum salary (which is still more than Marbury makes in China)

He consoles himself by saying he's here to promote his shoe line, but come on, how many Chinese kids do you see wearing 'Starbury's?"

Marbury is a glorified English teacher. BHL who can't find work back home.

2nd that! He's proud to be an Asian-American!

Just to put this out there...his parents are Taiwanese. If you ask him, he'll say his Taiwanese-American, not Chinese-American. China would love to say yeah his Chinese (because of the whole 1 china stuff..whatever)...but there's a diff...everyone knows that....not to stir up the whole taiwanese/chinese thing...but thats the truth....

His size makes him a more viable asian basketball icon...
Yao Ming was too tall so most Asians cant relate to him

Yeah, everybody knows that....
NBA must be counting $$$$ right now, all his games has been a sell-out so far and TV coverage of the future knicks games are being booked heavily

If they make the final 8......WOW

I have a friend back home with 4 second row season tickets for the Knicks, so close to the Knicks bench you could reach out and touch the players...I remember 5 years ago he'd have a hard time sometimes getting friends to go with him the Knicks were so bad...Common question would be 'Who are they playing?' before a decision can be made. Now I'm sure he's finding fair-weather friends left and right.

Once Amar'e Stoudemire & Carmelo Anthony comes back he will be lucky to average 15 per game. Not that it is his fault (they did just win 7 in a row without those two and was 8-15 ) but because those two are not known for their defense/rebounding but rather for shooting a lot.

Trolling on local forums reveals a significant number of mainlanders claiming him as "Chinese!". Using the logic that prevails here, your ancestors could have left China in the 4th century but you'll always be Chinese.

Truth be told is a Irish, German, Spanish...endoursements came along and offered a 2nd, 3rd,...generation (Irish, German, Spanish) sports star most of they will be willing to promote whatever that company wanted as long as they paid good $$$. Also true although America is a great melting pot (probably better then most places) there is still distinctions made between white/european people and non white people in all walks of life. Espn/Yahoo Sports/NY Times....is the ones promoting (making the distinction) right from the beginning that he is Taiwanese/Chinese (along with being from Harvard/Christian...).

Yao Ming was great, but very different to J Lin.
Yaoh's hight and weight was too much to handle...injury.
Jeremy is fast, innovative, and a relaxed, humble guy
It will be interesting to see what goes from here, but he has lifted the knicks out of the shxt, but that will only put more pressure on the guy.
Good luck to him.
