I should have know. I heard the first time about this restaurant trough a email flyer from the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. The review at City Weekend was written by a very active Member / Organizer of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. Nobody else knows about this place. The Canadian Chef was apparantly a Chef of Mr Chretien ( former Prime Minister of Canada - and now I know why he did not wanted to go back to office again.... ) who now for some strange reasons is the head chef at Judy's. All the Food pictures on the Menu where Photo shopped. And badly so. Why would you Photo shop blueberry bushels onto a Pancake ?

Anyway, we went there for Breakfast as I thought that this would be a somewhat safe choice. Alas I was proven wrong. When we arrive we where greeted by the owner who took our Coffee Order and then disappeared behind the Bar to continue reading his book. After we placed our Breakfast Order we waited for a bit more than 20minutes for the scrambled Eggs and Fried Eggs to arrive. The scrambled Eggs where a joke. It was 2 eggs fried up and then chopped into small pieces... Bacon was crispy and on the edge of burned. The Hashbrowns where homemade but had absolutely no flavor and contained burned Onions. Fruit that came with was bland and hard. The Hollondaise on the overcooked poached eggs was so hard you could quenelle it. Coffee was cold and had not taste. And to top it off, the small Orange Juice ( 20ml) fresh from the Tetra Pack was 20 RMB - I don't even charge that much for freshly squeezed Juice at my Hotel.

In all honesty, if I pay 200 RMB for two plates of Egg and a cup of coffee and some a glass of small Juice I expect better than that. And if you Photoshop your Menu Pictures and Fruit - at least make sure the Sauce you have on some of your Meat Dishes & seafood is not separated.

And as much as I can understand a chamber wanting to promote a fellow Country Man's Business - send somebody to the Place to have a look at it and try it.

Like Beybifeyz said, great hospitality but the food sucks. I can only hope the Food improved on Parliament Hill in Ottawa those days - if not I'd say there be another Election soon.

Withering review from SC.

"...and then disappeared behind the Bar to continue reading his book."

"...we waited for a bit more than 20 minutes for the scrambled Eggs ..."

Hmmm. I tap my feet vigorously, you know, Chinese style for about 7 minutes for my breakfast to be served, in a local "Laowai" restaurant with 63 smoking customers.

Girlies in appropriate restaurant attire, aprons and caps hover around with a pot of VERY HOT coffee for a multiple free refill at will, with coffee flavoured sugar granules at the table, and salt & pepper shakers right there, wihout annoyingly have to ask for them (in Chinese).

Cost for me and Mrs. Zak was 78 kuai.

I had a 3 egg Mushroom omelette (requested 3 eggs instead on 2, and cheddar cheese as well - I'm fussy), Mrs. Zak had grilled fish fillet and vegetables.

Orange juice (in a bottle but 2 glasses) went over well. At least the supplied glass of water didn't taste like mud (Mrs. Zak).

Simon's Bakery, Jin Ji Hu Lu, Xin Du Da Xia.

Not a Shanghai review, per se, but we have many readers from Suzhou on the site.

Service? A hand up gets a girlie swooping to your table in 4 seconds with a smile.

That's a 10/10 in my notebook.

This one overall: 6.5, nudging 7 /10.

Actually, I've been to Julie's several times for breakfast, lunches and dinners and think that for the level of quality and the quantity of food you get (at the prices they have) is an excellent value.

Not to mention that they have a new lunch set menu that rocks and a comfort food list on it's way.

Do this, compare the 'value' between what a restaurant, say like: Malone's serves for their price to Julie's and see for yourself.

Hands down, Julie's is the better bang for your buck (not to mention top quality food and portions).
