London for RMB 3,990 ?

Postby carrol » Tue Apr 19, 2005 11:00 am

British Airways has a half-page advert in yesterday's Shanghai Daily, advertising to London for 3,990 RMB. However, when I tried to book this morning, the price came up as 6,667 RMB, which is just a fraction less than the normal price on Virgin Air. And of course, no way of contacting them to query this ...

I got an email about this offer yesterday and if you look on their website it shows the special offer, but if you go through the procedure of booking online it comes up with your price, so maybe you have to phone them. It's a really good deal though, I paid about 6000 to fly with sh**y china eastern last year, i wish they'd had this offer then!

My previous Chinese teacher used to work for an international airline company. He said that previously they had a similar offer on flights. However all the cheap flight options were taken up by staff so before the public even had a chance to buy the seats they had all gone. Perhaps its the same story.

On cheap flights I flew KLM via Amsterdam to UK for around RMB5,000 return, including the onward flight to the UK. This was actually better than flying to London for me as I could travel to the regional airport of my choice.

Play-offs beckoning then we will be back. Er.. maybe.

My KLM flight was not a particular promotion as far as I remember (October last time). I booked it about a month before but I don't know how flexible the dates could be.

As I was writing this I have just done the same search on the KLM website and the price has come back as RMB 11,000! So why it was so cheap before I don't know. I know fuel has gone up since then but not by so much.

I booked before by calling the KLM office in Shanghai. So maybe they have better offers than the internet site. Did you call them?
