Where can I buys some simple, inexpensive men's underwear (jockeys) and cotton socks, etc? I plodded around for a while today with no luck. Preferably around People's Square - not designer stuff, just Fruit of The Loom or something like that - and I am a big guy, I need XXL -

Same here. Isn't it crying to high heaven that we, if we want some quality underwear, jockeys and socks, that we have to bring it with us from EU/US, even when all these things are made here in China ?

The Chinese-style men's underware is like a too thin, flexible, plastic bag.
What I need is a nice, thick, 95% cotton, solid, dimensionally stable device, as strong as a good bra.

OP was wanting inexpensive items though, not sure M&S falls into that category. Seemed expensive to me last time I looked.

yeah, underwear at m&s is kind of expensive. i only did the "3 for m&s" so i could put up a pic of the count...

So how expensive is M&S? I always buy mine at Calvin Klein, about 200rmb a pair.

I also stock underwear from back home but if I'd want to buy reasonable price underwear, I'd try Uniqlo. At people square, there's one one Nanjing pedestrian street, near Nanjing Dong Lu station. They usually have good quality/price ratio and have a lot of basic stuff such as plain white t-shirts, tank tops, socks and underwear.

Of course they do. I buy all my jackets and long sleeved shirts at CK or Guess too, as they are the only shops that have ones with sleeves long enough...

I normally buy mine in Uniqlo. Decent quality/price ratio. They have choice for fat bastards too.

When I was still living in England I used to buy all my underwear from M&S and after moving to Hong Kong I also bought it at M&S too.

But then I arrived in the Grim Mainland and at first the only place I could buy it was Tops supermarket which sold these cheesecutters wrapped in thin cotton, To Tops marketing department they thought this was underwear - the most uncomfortable underwear that made my balls bleed.

Then I started buying fake Calvin's from Xiang Yang Mkt - the elastic would go after three washes and then the underwear would not stay up without the assistance of a belt.

Finally Uniqlo arrived and all problems solved. Uniqlo has quality cheap underpants - much better than M&S by todays standards (I recently took a nostalgic trip to M&S underwear department and was bitterly disappointed so I bought some tea bags instead).

Uniqlo, my son, is the place to purchase your mouse hammocks.
