Mexican Restaurants in Shanghai???

Got a recipe? A restaurant recommendation? Got a comment about eating and drinking? Post something in the FOOD forum.

I love how someone always tries to bring the discussion of Mexican Restaurants back to topic. How many times though can we talk about the same restaurants??? Mexican Food in Shanghai is a lost cause. :?

Side Note: EA Games doesn't let you know if they are real blondes. Private parts are blurred out, sad to say.

I used to think that. And I think that still holds true for USA style Mexican food.

Try Adobo. It tastes remarkably like food in Mexico.

@Ladyofleisure how can i find you at the game, any character name? sounds like we can have fun there, reading your post are making my day. if you have chance let me know your expieriences and feeling while playing it,)

Side note: Adobo is cajun style tex mex food, yes the owner is half mexican, but lived in california almost all his life, so doesnt count. so you can say his half chinese , 40 percent american , 10 percent mexican. the portions there are really small for the price, the burrito is just ok. the rice is cooked using the feet, the drinks deal there are good , but other stuff is just soso, not worth the price. the location just soso but the restaurant decor is nice.

DO you work for AGAVE. please get a life.

I review MANY restaurants, Cantina Agave is simply the best mexican food in Shanghai (sad as that may be). At least when I review a place, I've actually eaten the food there, unlike you...

mmm, I have only tried Agave so far, and if this is the 'best mexican' restaurant in Shanghai, then we got a problem.
Food is not BAD but is not very tasty either, just average (on the lower end). If you are homesick and craving for some mexican food it will get the job done but for sure is not to die for.

So far, I've only tried the burritos at El Mexicano and Cantina Agave.

Agave: Huge burritos. Their carne asada was excellent and I'd definitely order it again. However, their machaca was not what I'm used to at all- no eggs, no peppers- basically shredded beef soaked in enchilada sauce with onions. Not terrible, but not great.

El Mexicano: The burritos are smaller, but less expensive, and so far, I haven't had one I didn't like. However, I tried some kind of appetizer with "chorizo", and I couldn't finish it. Their delivery service is good. Good food, not great food that will blow your mind, but good food that will remind you of those Tex-Mex chains like Betos or Mi Rancherito in the USA.

If you are looking for authentic Mexican food in Shanghai, the best advice I can give you is find some Mexican friends here and see if they will invite you over for dinner. Nobody makes pig foot soup, menudo, tripa y lengua, and barbecued hog jowls like they do.

Mi Tierra has tamales? Can't wait till they open. Where are they located? I've never seen tamales at any of the "Mexican" restaurants in Shanghai. Btw, the closest thing I've seen to an American style Tex-Mex burrito is from NYC Deli. They only serve them on weekends. El Mexicano is the closest to authentic Mexican I've seen in town, though I've never tried Adobo.

I'd ring Malones and ask them. Their burrito reputedly contains 'Cajun' spices.
Naturally, I finished my set. . .

Cajun style for me means that the food has a kind of smoked flavor, also add alot of pepper, i have been to adobo few times, at least the rice and some of their salsas taste the same as some cajun style restaurants i have been. The happy hour is a good deal there. i havent try mi tierra so i can not say anything, i know the person that cooks there is the same that was cooking at el mexicano and at maya( one of the "chef").

I suggest you learn a little more about what Cajun food actually is - then if you have time head over to Malones and educate whatever clueless individual put their menu together.

My friend told me that Mi Tierra will not officially open until after Chinese New Year but you can continue to get home delivery. I bet the restaurant will be awesome when it opens - can't wait!! :)

The web site for Mi Tierra looks promising. Good to know there's a place in town that makes tamales now. Tengo que apoyar a los cocineros mexicanos en esta ciudad. Aunque me encanta la comida china, Shanghai le hace falta la mejor comida que jamás se inventó sobre la faz de la tierra.

I don't think you know much about Cajun food or Mexican food. The place serves Mexican food, and then some weird Italo-Chinese stuff to fill out the menu. The owner is from Mexico City, he did not live in California all his life. He went to University in L.A - USC if I'm not mistaken. Know what you're talking about before you post.
