Missing BOC card

Postby CK1 » Mon Oct 06, 2008 3:40 pm

My BOC card has disappeared.

Most likely it will turn up under my couch in 3 weeks time or so, but anyway thinking I will get it cancelled and get a new one.

What do I need to bring to the BOC, can I just bring my passport, or I do I need to bring that yellow cash book along too, as I think that has disappeared too (i know, i know I'm a dumbass...)

Also, quick couple of questions, after cancelling the card, how long does it take until I can pick up my new one?

And, worse comes to worse, if it is out somewhere in Shanghai, considering it just a pin-number cash card, should I be worried about my account being emptied?

Thanks people!

Block it as soon as possible. You maybe able get money from that after 1 month (?) - you need ask at the bank.

Most likely you don't have to worry about someone else using it.

I've lost my BOC card 2x, and it's not fun. You have to return to the branch AT WHICH YOU OPENED THE ACCOUNT. You don't need the yellow book, but you'll need your account number (they were incapable of looking it up based on name for me).

It then takes 1 week to get the new card. Good luck!

BOC sounds like a nightmare.

I lost my China Construction Bank card, all I needed was my passport, some idea of balance and when last transaction had occurred. No need to go to original branch. Took one week and new card was ready to be picked up.

Try to call 95566. You will most likely need to bring the yellow book and definitely your passport.

To get a new card you need to go to the exact bank where you opened the account, and it will take around a week before you can collect them. You will not be able to withdraw any money from the account during this time.

If you can not wait for a week, you can simply withdraw all your money and close the account then open a new one. They will give you a new card and a new book without having to wait for a week.

Hope that helps.

You can call them on the phone and request to block the usage of the card which will go into effect immediately, then as mentioned you'll have to go to the original branch . The good news is that reporting card loss has priority and you probably won't have to wait for long. Bring with you also some water/electricity bills showing your current address, it doesn't matter if they are not on your name.

Thanks very much guys for the help.

I don't need to use the card so I can wait a week no problem to get a new one.

I will bring the bills as recommended, and I will need to hunt down this bloody yellow book! Without this book, do you think I will be in a whole World of hassle when I get there?

I have to say, this seems a lot more effort than when I had my phone stolen, that was great, simply stroll into China Telecom and 5 minutes later your up again and good to go!

It is a whole lot faster and cheaper to just open another account, get a new ATM, and then transfer all but 1rmb out of the old account to the new account.

Leave the bank the same day with an ATM

Just back from the bank.

I called 95566 last night and they were excellent. The girls English was perfect and listened to my situation.

She asked for my passport number, name and then for me to enter my password into the phone.

She then canceled my card and book, let me know my card and account number as well as my balance.

She instructed me to go to the bank the next day with this information and ask for a new card and book.

Lots of paperwork as usual, but straightforward. They asked me to come back on Thursday, as it take 7 working days for processing.

Thanks for all the help

Not sure about entering the password into the phone. I would change the password asap if I was you.

^ Nah. As long as it was really BOC, you initiated the call and it was their automated inquiry PIN service you are ok.
