Moved from Suzhou to Shanghai, looking for some advice

Postby Julienne » Mon Sep 03, 2007 10:43 am

Hi everybody,
I moved with my husband from Suzhou to Shanghai.
I´m 27 and I´m from Germany. I finished my studies last month. Now I want to do a English Course to improve my English before I start to work here. Has anybody a recommendation where to do it (Maybe at the University?).
Also I would be lucky to get some advices from you concerning:
Fresh fruit and vegetable market, "Real" bred bakery , good butcher... I´m living next to the century park, maybe you know this things next to this area.
I also want to get connected to other expats. Maybe somebody of you also do his/her workout at the Megafit Gym...,likes to drink a coffee or wants to show me the market, bakery....

See ya

no need to improve your English to find a job in Shanghai. You might consider improving your Mandarin though... ;-). If you work in an English speaking environment you will get some training on the job.
For real bread you can try "Abendbrot" (they also deliver to Pudong) or Baastian's bakery (in Gubei, a bit far awar from Century Park) or Haya (also not in Pudong) - I guess Abendbrot is your best guess.
There's Carrefour for salami and ham. If you go for "German style" meat you could check the 5* hotels - some of them have a deli (e.g. Marriott in Gubei...). Fresh fruit and veg: I don't know the wet markets in Pudong, sorry. There are plenty in Puxi... well, Carrefour also has some (overpriced) vegetables & fruit.
