moving to Shanghai in June

Postby katerno » Wed May 07, 2008 9:03 pm

My husband and I (with one child 22months) are moving to shanghai mid of May. We are therefore looking for an apartment to rent, preferably in the French concession near FENYAN LU -FUXING LU. We would be ready to move in June or July.

Our target is about 160sqm / 3 bedrooms and budget is 1500USD/month.

Before calling real estate, if you know/heard about someone leaving his apartment or looking for new tenants, please kindly let me know.

Thanks much!

maybe I can find one apartment for you because I know some landlords are looking for new tenants. For details, you can check www.shaces.com first and then contact me!!

I gave you all the details about what we were looking for, so tell me what you have ? We already have our own furniture (we do not have fridge).
Thanks

zhongyi....

And you should maybe consider admitting you are an agent and quit spamming this and several other threads?

katerno....If you are looking for an agent:
Search the threads for Adrienne or PM her......Good agent. honest.

Unlike our new friend zhongyi....she never solicits business on this site, but does offer her advice and experience.

@Katerno

Don't even bother talking to Zhongyi she is an estate agent. She'll just make a big lump sum of money from you for a rubbish accom. Beware of other stealth users alot of fake users go on here to try and chat to higher position expats to sell something to them.

I don't know how I can help you on finding accom, my wife lives here and is local so it wasn't much trouble for me to move here.

Zhongyi you have been reported.

Do yourself a favor. You will probably beat your shipment of stuff by weeks. take the first week and stay in serviced apartment or hotel and look around. I would definitely not sign a lease and pay any money until I had a chance to check was is being offered with my own eyes.

Check http://cityspace.shanghaiexpat.com to get an idea of whats out there and the prices. for many of these listings, the quoted prices are high.. but it will give you an idea.

The really good deals go quick. We have a 140sqm 3 BR that is pretty nice for 5500 RMB a month. Lower floor and street side ( though we have double pane glass to help with the nose ) ... these kind of deals are out there but not easy to find.

In the French Concession area there's not the big selection of apartments that you get in other areas because THANK GOD they have retained alot of the area's historic homes and buildings. The cheaper clusters of newer high rises are either centrally located and north of Nanjing Rd, in the Xu Jia Hui area, South of Xin Tian Di, Zhong Shan Park area or in the Gubei area. There are some new and also some older apartment blocks of 10-15 years in the green part of French Concession area. The older ones have some renovated apartments in them and some of these are gems. But you may have to visit qutie a few dives before you find one. Because the French Concession has such limited supply and is a popular historic location the rentals tend to be more expensive than the other areas where there are many more places to choose from. But USD$1,500 will be fine for an apartment in this area. You'll just need to spend time hunting.
