^Funny you should say that. You know, my water cooler water tastes like Shanghai ass water. Maybe I am buying from my own tap?

China. Why are you so hard to love?

Guru Pitka. Toddle off to the local water authority office in your area and ask them to follow up with it all. They are pretty good like that and will investigate it all for you.

I mistakenly left a bathroom tap slowly running for 3 weeks whilst I was away and the bill came to around 200rmb so I'd join the chorus of other folk in saying there is definitely something wrong with it.

I do tons of laundry, take showers once or twice a day. Leave in a 2 bedroom apartment. I don't think I ever paid more than 50 rmb a month.

You either have a leak in the pipe or someone is 'sharing' YOUR water :?

Well, I've been back and forth on the phone with the water company (actually a really polite and helpful bunch). I created a bit of rapport with one guy who is really going out of his way to help. He said the bill (which is for 1 month) is crazy for a single guy living alone in such a small apartment. He told me to inform my landlord. I explained the situation to my landlord and he got upset and started raising his voice and saying it was my problem, etc (then rambled incoherently in Shanghainese and closed by saying all foreign people were 'fan si le' ???). Anyway, I get back on the phone with my connection at the water company, who told me the company is going to arrange an inspection to happen Monday. So we will see what happens.

Actually, I was pleasantly surprised. The water company has an English speaking reception for their phone service (huge help!) :)

Thanks for the help!

"fan si le" transliterates nicely as "you're a pain in the ass".

Generally speaking for landlords here you do not want to involve them.
They are much happier for you to solve stuff yourself without their having to be involved.
Those are the good landlords.

If you're unlucky, you get the other type of landlord who micromanages everything and thinks their 20 year old crappy furniture is the crown jewels. Those you avoid.

For what its worth my water bill last month was 6rmb.
(Single person, shower once a day, washing machine once a week).
