I realize that we have added alot here and that its going to take time to get to know whats here and figure out if its any good for you. Every now and then, I will post some information about one of the new site features here OR respond to any questions about the new site.

To get a more detailed overview of whats here.. you can look at the HOW TO. Look to the left, under the main menu. under FINDING INFO.. and click on HOW TO.

If you find a BUG.. post it in the http://www.shanghaiexpat.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=4711 BUG REPORTS

If you want some input on why I upset everyone status quo and brought out this new site. read about it in the blogs. Look to the Main Menu on the left.. under THINGS TO DO.. and choose member blogs. If you have a lot to say, you can even have your own.

Post an Event

Members can post an event in the Calendar. When you are logged, take a look at the calendar.

On the top right of the calendar header, there is a button to "Add" . Click this and you will get a form to fill in your event information. Make sure you fill in the date, time, contact information and place at least.

Choose a category. Let me know if you think we need another category for your event.

Also Make sure you get the Sharing to Global, if you want everyone to see it.

You can also use the calendar for your personal events by selecting PRivate, and then no one will see them.

Quasi- what do you mean? Saying that it needs improvement is fine, but if you don't say what *aspect* needs improvement, how can we do anything?

Mostly I would think the problem is a matter of speed, which I sympatheisze with. Some improvements may be possible, but somethings will always be slow due to distance from the server and technology.

maybe you gots too many forum topics. I'm never sure which one to look in for most of my questions, etc. Also, if there's a way to discourage all the crap postings ... the goofball juvenile stuff is really annoying.

Thanks to some troubleshooting by Denny and smurfette, we have the avatars working again after the latest move. :D

Really there are two systems at work here with some linkage between them, but not total integration. There is the system that runs the website an the system that runs the forum. Thats why you might see private messages coming at your from two different places ( site and forum). We are working on this, but it will not be quick.

You have two different avatars.. one for your site profile that goes with your private messages on the main site and one for the forum profile.

If you want to upload.. Make sure your avatar is 64 pixels x 64 pixels or less and 10 K or less.

For the site profile.. go to the my accounts link on the left.. click the change info icon, and change your avatar. You can upload a personal avatar there or pick one of the smilies from the menu.

On the forum profile. At the bottom of your profile page, you can upload your or choose one from the gallery. There are lots of avatars in the galllery. If you choose to get your profile from the gallery.. browse through the folders in the pull down menu.

Thanks urgent culture.. have had some feedback about the categories and how to organize this. Unfortunately, with every attempt to figure out a new way. someone loves and someone else hates it. Its impossible to please everyone all the time. Always open to suggestions though.

Hey folks,

If you a budding photographer snapping shots of Shanghai, you too can have a place for a a few of your best photos on Shanghaiexpat. We have just opened a new member photo album in the photogallery and are looking for contributions.

Guidelines.
Your photos must be yours.. original.. not someone elses. No copyrighted material ( other than your own copyright).

Must be edited to 600x600 pixels at the largest.

You should count on writing a short caption telling where the pciture was taken and who is in it.

If you want to upload a few great photos contact Michael, smurfette, or Sinsabit for more info.

Anyone gots some good pics of the coffee meetings?
