Can't speak for others (and am not in Shanghai - but close) but we are staying where we are. Just sent daughter back to my family for the holidays.

Yes, it's going to be pretty boring, but it's not easy to get away as prices are sky high so I am most likely staying put.

Where are you from? I come from Hubei and husband from Australia. At my family village is nothing to do and his home town was badly flooded so just stay here in JiaXing this holiday

Well, when is this place not boring? The good thing is that during the holidays it is easy to get around town. And you finally have time to catch up with all those things you wanted to finish, and never had time for it.

you western big tough guys don't know the fun you miss out on. When else can you push, shove, hit people in public and get away with it? About 5 years ago we tried to get on long distance bus and husband had hold of baby. Police officer stand in door of bus and call him forward (looks bad if foreigners see all the rude chinese pushing hahahaha) but before he can get on a woman try push on but police guy push her backwards. she get angry and slapped him across face so he punched her in face. She hit the ground and husband and me get on bus when all are watching the fight hahahahaha

go nowhere. enjoy the show.

you do not want to be near any form of public (air/train/bus/etc) transport during the new year.

at least the streets are cleaned rapidly so you needn't walk in red crap the following day.
