New Z visa regulation? Green book now obsolete?

Postby sha4219 » Thu Mar 17, 2005 10:41 pm

Hi all

Ive just heard that there is a new regulation in relation to the Z working visa. A colleague of mine had her residence permit - the green book - and old Z visa on her passport cancelled (replaced by new Z visa) when updating her new address. She was told it's a new regulation/process. She says now the green book is no longer used/she no longer has one.

Does anyone know any info about this? by the way where can we non-chinese speaking laowais find this kind of information.

Tks

Yes, it is true. I applied for a new re-entry visa (in my case X) and the authorities took my green book and put a sticker into passport.

Here is some info (though not from official site) from http://www.globalhrlink.com/EN/FAQ.htm#13

What is Foreigner Residence Permit? How Can I get it? What is it used for?
Foreigner Residence Permit (RP), also called "green book" by many foreigners, is an official document indicating that you can legally reside in China. A new version RP, which is a sticker (sample) placed in your passport, started being issued from November 22, 2004 in Beijing and December 20, 2004 in Shanghai. A significant change on the new version RP is that it also functions as a multiple entry visa, i.e., new RP = "green book " + multiple entry Z visa. The new residence permit costs RMB 400 with the validity of one year or one year minus, and RMB 800 for one year plus.

And here is some official info just for future

Hummm... it's just a change of the form of the residence permit, not the entire z visa requirements. the "green book" is good for nothing, anyway.

Below is an extract from a news alert issued by Deloitte earlier this year:

ELIMINATION OF THE RESIDENCE PERMIT BOOKLET

The PSB will no longer issue a separate residence permit booklet. Instead, the PSB will issue a residence approval card which would be attached to the original passport. Residence permits are renewed together with the Z Visa and work permit.

Q1 - it's not better if you happen to like those booklets.

Q2 - No. Work permit doesn't mean you can come look for a job. It means the employment of THIS foreigner is permitted and you come to China to attend the position.

My green book is cancelled too.
I always carried the photocopy of it in my wallet as some sort of ID, just in case some policemen find something fishy about me.
Now, I won't carry my passport around with me, and the police would have to follow me back to my home where I can show him my passport....... :P
Running with scissors..........
