Questions and Answers about living in Shanghai here.

No document prepared what will happen...............

Postby fulltrack » Fri Dec 02, 2011 9:30 pm

with your body if you suddenly die here and didn't prepare any document?

Lots of foreigners living here alone. Lets say you are a over aged teacher and banging all the hot chicks you can get, then in the hottest of the battle BAM....heart attack. What will happen with your body?

Or you are woman/girl lives alone and in the evening you feel hungry, go to the McDonalds on foot, crossing the street BAM.... you get hit by a giant truck. What will happen with your body?

We all know that our soul will go to heaven :) but the body?

Anyone has any insight on this?

Well I dont know about you guys but I have a really good insurance ( not only medical but also provides a lawyer when I need one. Ow and it also covers when I get in an accident or when somebody breaks something in my apartment.

If I get a terrible accident and become paralize it gives my parents 2 tickets to come to china to get me. And all that for only 400 rmb a month....

Simply for not leaving your family or relevant's behind with a financial burden.

As a matter of fact, Their was a guy in Shensen who died lately, had 4 children in the US and they had to pay $6,000 for cremating his body and sending the urn. His body stayed more then 5 weeks in a fridge before all paperwork and needed documents were finished.

That's why Ricky!

If i unfortunately pass away in China knowing my office they would just book seat on BA and fly my decomposing corpse back to UK probably in Economy even though flight is over 7 hours i am entitled to Economy Plus. I am not sure a pulse is required to have seat on plane???

But i do have Platinum Level expat insurance never bothered to read it properly as yet not really needed it....yet.

I guess not.

Chinese Officials wanted letter from US Consulate authorizing cremation. Consulate said it was a private decision, not up for them to do, and refused letter. 4 children sent affidavits authorizing cremation, Chinese Officials still refused requesting also letter from Consulate. Days went by and nothing done. daughters had to sent $ 6,000 US dollars to Consulate to pay for cremation, urn and shipping ashes back to USA for burial there, plus a charge for "storing and preserving a dead body".

Have no relatives in China...wife & kids are in Japan (who have their own platinum cards for health insurance). Only time i wanted to claim was Mrs giving birth to the kids but of course is not covered health insurance. So cost 4000~5000 GBP for each baby in Japan i would have had them on NHS for free in UK.

If you have a private health insurance, they cover the repatriation costs of the body.
If you don't, the police will keep the body in the hospital and contact the consulate. The consulate will try to contact the family to take care of the body. I know it because something similar happened to me a few

Have a lst will & testament is the safest bet.

have a emergency number in your wallet and in your mobile phone so your loved ones can be informed.

Be on the EMERGENCY list of your consulate.

Always carry some kind of ID or at least a copy of it
