It's that time of year again to start planning for what to do on October 1st holidays. Anyone interested in forming a group travel either within or outside of China?

Well, I guess this depends on everyones budget. The closer to Shanhai the lower the costs. And considering if we can get more people we can share on some of the costs like transporation, foods, etc.. Places that I've been that were pretty cool and wouldn't mind going again are: Qing Dao, Dalian, Xiamen, Zhu Hai, Hong Kong, Macau, Beijing. I was thinking about Xi An or maybe somewhere more inland. So what cities are you all thinking about and ideas on budget expectations?

Skip Hong Kong for this holiday. It's going to be crazy busy and expensive during that week. Firstly because it's the October holiday and a lot of mainland Chinese like to go to HK for the week, but secondly, Disneyland will have just opened and even more people will be in Hong Kong for that. Just my two cents.
why not take your damn orange juice and use it as an enema.

Disneyland in HONG KONG ?
I've learned that good-byes will always hurt, pictures will never replace having been there, memories good and bad will bring tears, and words can never replace feelings ..

I agree about HK being crowded & expensive over the holiday. Maybe the same for Beijing? For me, Xi'an, Qingdao, Yunnan, JiuZaiGuo (sic?), Xinjiang sound great. Maybe Xiamen or Dalian next. What about Yellow Mtn - don't know too much about it? Or Sichuan? I'm pretty open.............

I'd like to go inland.. Xi'an, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunan, etc... I don't care if we go cheap or not, I'm always up for an interesting adventure.

I was in Beijing last holiday and well basically this is China and everywhere is going to be crowded. I did find an interesting combo travel plan. Fly to Xiamen and then from Xiamen to Bangkok on AirAsia. Airasia from Xiamen to Bangkok is around $150USD. If you add another $100USD from Shanghai to Xiamen it's the best value that I've found. Even if you book Shanghai to Bangkok during the holidays its going to be at least double that costs. So a few days in Bangkok and a few days in Xiamen. How does that sound?

Considering that most people's budget seems to be around the $500USD or less for a weeks travel. I would like to do a poll on where we should go. Please send your votes for the following (or add to with more cities):

Beijing
Dalian
Guizhou
Hong Kong
Huang Shan
Macau
Qing Dao
t¡bet
Xiamen
Xi An
Xinjiang
Yunan
Zhu Hai

Is it cheaper to travel in a group than to just go in a pair?
My boyfriend is coming to Shanghai for a month to visit me, just as the holiday starts. I want to go with him somewhere culturally interesting or naturally beautiful while he's here, but i'm not sure where we can go that will be inexpensive enough during the holiday. Unfortunately, it's my only long vacation...
I was thinking of Xi'an, or maybe Luoyang. Will less famous places be less crowded, or do you think everywhere will be just as bad?

the price of airtickets to singapore is dirt cheap. check out elong.net.

id head there but there doesnt seem to be to much to do. still waiting for a reasonably priced ticket to Cambodia, Vietnam, or Myanmar.

Hoping to climb Mount Huashan this October.
Train from Shanghai via Xi'an.
Still working out details though with other backpackers.
JiuZhaiGou could be back-up plan.
