Opinions on JinQiao area - Swiss Garden ?

Postby HS » Sun Mar 21, 2010 10:43 pm

Can anyone tell me what they think about living near JinQiao station? How long does it take to get to the citi center in Buxi and is there an expat community/meetings in the area? I'm concerned I may be too removed from all the action. For example, if I were to take a subway to the Sunday brunch meetings, how long will that take?

I am trying to strike a balance between short commute for the weekdays and convenience to Buxi for the weekends for fun. My office is near the New JinQiao Rd in the Jinqiao Export processing Zone. I'm all ears for any recommendation on where to take a look.

Thanks you!

After living and working in Puxi for a few years, my company relocated to Jinqiao and I moved a few months back. 'Swiss Garden' is I assume where I live now - Jinqiao Ruishi Huayuan is tastelessly translated into 'Rich Garden'. It's not a bad choice in the area although look elsewhere if you are looking for many other foreign neighbours. It's very much a local neighbourhood.

My office is also on New Jinqiao Road and a 10 minute cycle ride - it's a very long road though so hard to comment on the convenience too much.

For expat meetings the Biyun area is pretty close. Others would have to comment but as I understand they are of a more family oriented nature than you might find in the city. Other than that not much happening.

Line 6 metro, which Jinqiao Road and Yunshan Road nearby are on, is ludicrously overcrowded but still useful. A taxi to central Puxi is 40-50 RMB depending on where you are going and a bit more coming back after 11.

Basically, if you are moving on your own and want to have fun outside of work, move to Puxi and take the metro and taxi to work. If you are happy to live the quiet life, and go into the city at the weekend, Jinqiao is fine.
