Pain Killers?

Postby KeithK » Sun Mar 06, 2005 4:08 pm

Anyway.....I have migraine headaches from time to time. My doctor back in the states prescribed Vicodin.

How does one go about getting a prescription for this or comparable product. Is a prescription needed or not? If so, where to go? If not, what do I do?

Anyone?

I am not familiar with that particular drug but if you know that is what you require, you can just walk into any pharmacy and show them what you want and get it over the counter. I have never been asked for a prescription for any drug here.

Just write down the name of the drug in English, walk into one of the larger pharmacies and show them the name, and they should have it. if you have a pack, it's better if you take that and show them. If they haven't got the brand you are looking for, or if the brand name is different in China, they will be able to look it up in their reference books and identify it.

Ever since I started working in the medical business I seem to post on the "Health Care Issues" threads a little more often. So here goes another one...

You might not be aware that Botox can be used to treat migraine headaches (by injecting into the head/neck muscles that are constricting blood flow).

Definitely a better option than drugs... and Botox treatments in China are much cheaper than in the U.S. because they make the stuff locally. The domestic product is said to be very safe but I don't have personal knowledge, so I won't swear to that.

Not sure if any Chinese doctors are familiar with the use of Botox for migraine, however. Talk to Ninth People's Hospital if you're considering this option, since they do a lot of very good plastic surgery and are probably the local Botox experts.

May consider looking into that.....not to air my health problems...which aren't may except the headaches, but it is one of those thigns that comes and goes. I personally think it is stress related...which means it hits when I least need it too. But, I'll have pretty intense headaches primarily in the afternoon and evening for a week to two weeks..on and off, then fine for weeks on end. And just when I think I'm rid of it....BAM...back again.

Thanks for the advice, certainly worth looking into...
