So a Chinese gal in her mid/late-20s that I'd recently randomly met got in touch out of the blue and suggested that we go out for a few drinks. No problem, I say, where do you want to take me out? After some huffing and hawing, she says Ok, we can split the bill. No no, bill splitting ain't friendly, you invited me out, it's your treat, hao ba? Commence even more huffing and hawing, moaning and groaning. She eventually gave in and agreed it was her treat, but she seemed slightly pissed off.

I've been taken out and treated to all sorts many times, but what do a large proportion of Chinese girls have against paying after full-on inviting a guy out? Bit cheeky, no?

Haha, that is why you wait for the guy to invite you out... I offer to split the bill in most cases or if they pay for the first date, I will pay for the second date.

So the dates are all about "who is paying" huh? Not to mention the big salary gap between local people and expat package?!

Sounds to me that you are just being a cheapskate.

So what about 2 persons (a foreign guy and a Chinese girl) with almost similar level of income? Or girl earning more?

You are obviously dating women from poor backgrounds.

Try going up an income bracket or too.

They're not used to it because all the pussy-whipped local guys and the older fat fugly expats who need to flaunt a bit of money to pick up have spoiled them. That said there are still plenty of girls who will treat you.

Why make things so complicated? If the girl is not worth a few of your RMB then just make a polite refusal.

i can imagine that all guys here will throw tomatoes on me now, but i think that 99% of all time a guy should pay. In other topics on this forum (discussing advantages of marriage) most of the guys who are happy with their wives were saying that biggest part of the work in a house is done by their women, also women care about children much more. And guys totally support it. So why paying should be equal?
In the situation above i would probably offer to pay the bill, if i invite a guy out. But if he starts to ask for this himself and insist on me paying, i would probably never even say "hi" to this guy again, and definitely i would never respect him as a man. Thanks God there are still plenty of guys in this world, who opens the door in the car, takes my coat, lights my cigarette and always insists on paying the bill. I am not a golden digger and I earn enough to pay for all myself, but this kind of relationship is not for me. I want to feel myself a woman when am out with a guy.
It is very strange, here guys are always complaining that White girls are too emancipated, but when it comes to paying the bill, guys support emancipation very much. Double standards I guess

We're talking about a date, not a married couple.

But you'd be expecting the guy to pay, right, even if you offered?

What does that have to do with paying a bill?

I don't think (m)any guys here disagree with full woman's rights and equality, quite on the contrary, so no double standards. Simply, if you invite a guy out, be a good girl foot the bill, mmkay?

insisting paying the bill is a gesture - you don't necessarily end up paying but you have to offer - otherwise you are so not attractive as a man.
i think women who date such type of men usually don't plan to have any future with them.

Personally I think that women that have a 'man's gotta pay for everything for me' get what they deserve in the end (whether that's treated like a house slave or sex object).

Here's where the bullets start flying from the gallery about chivalry this and earning power that....
