Places for thyroid Level Testing

Postby ExpatNewbie » Mon Jan 02, 2012 9:59 pm

Hi

I want to get my thyroid level checked, it is a precautionary measure that my doc back home asks me to do periodically. So I don't need a doctor's help on this, all I want to know is the level of my TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone).

So any of you aware of pathology or lab service where I can get this test done? Appreciate the help!

Thanks.

I get it done in HK.

I do know what Synthroid is in Mandarin. It's OTC here, but like most OTC drugs, half of them are fake. I usually get mine from Israel.

I was worried about this as I began synthroid last year, and upon refill of the
prescription here immediately gained 12 lbs, so I know I need the level checked
yesterday before I gain 12 more.

That doesn't make any sense. Synthroid should help you lose weight. If you're gaining weight, there's still something wrong with your endocrine system.

There are a few possibilities.

1) You may not be on a high enough dose.

2) You may need T3/T4 replacement instead of just T4.

3) If you're getting it in China, it's probably fake. Get it from overseas.

That said, I'm not a doctor. You should probably go see one.

I am going to the hospital this morning, as I think I have developed pneumonia.
Or I am just dying. I will let you know.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but the OP never got his question answered.

Where would you go to get your TSH level tested in Shanghai? Can you give me the name or a clinic to get this done? Thanks.

zaydxpres ... there are two options for you, I couldn't find any clinic or pathology lab that just does the TSH level testing...
a). go to one of the english speaking hospitals .. you could look for cheaper ones among them and get the level tested, because you don't need doctor advise you just need the test result
b). If you have good Chinese friends or you are good at Chinese, you can go to the Chinese hospital and get it tested for very cheap ..

I went for option A..
