I am in a desperate need of help regarding extension of my F visa. My situation is a bit complicated, so if you know what I should do, or who should be able to help, please do me a favor and post a reply here. The cold beer is on me when I am in Shanghai next.

I graduated in July 2006 from a college in China. From 2003-2006, I had a X visa. I changed my visa from X to F in July, and its expiring soon. However, when I called the visa agencies, they say my visa cannot be extended since I have not left China for the last 2 years. But if it was the case, then I would have had problems changing my X visa to F visa in july, no? Then, I didn't have any problem. What should I do? I am not in a big city like Shanghai or Beijing. I am really in the middle of nowhere.

Please help.

X visas are student visas and those don't force you to leave the country. Even the z-visa requires you to leave the country for 30 days straight every 5 years. You can try and see if one of the agencies can extend or renew your visa in HK, but be careful.
