Podiatrist Urgently Required....HELP

Postby lethal1962 » Wed Sep 05, 2007 9:15 pm

Hi there I am in urgent need of a Podiatrist in Shanghai. After much searching in both Chinese(足病医生) and English I have failed to locate one. Can anybody give me the details of a reliable Podiatrist please. :?:

I've got several generations of doctors, surgeons, nurses and podiatrists in my family. What seems to be the problem ?

Hi Spider my GF has 7 corns on her foot and they have been giving her severe pain for a few weeks now. The pain is getting much worse and they need to be removed. I want a professional to do this. If I cannot find a surgeon in Shanghai I will take her to HK. She is to the point where she can hardly walk and every step is so difficult for her. It makes her unhappy (and I hate to see her in pain). Would appreciate any assistance you can give. Regards, Leigh

This isn't the type of procedure you want to just throw her into in Chinese hospitals. I'd research the better Expat hospital services - there are several here, search: hospital on the site, you'll get a list of threads.

Worldlink is an option, just be sure you go to one that is reputable - i.e. look for comments here and on other forums about doc's and locations that aren't doing the best work. Worst case scenario - HK is an easy flight and easy to find good medical assistance there.

Good luck, you should be able to find someone here [Shanghai] to help you with this. Plenty of docs available, just need to find the right one.

Hi OP,

I'm a British Podiatrist but unfortunately I'm not currently working in Shanghai at the moment ( only arrived in July and haven't started looking for work yet).

I have done a lot of research on employment in Shanghai and they don't currently seemed to have ANY podiatrists here... well at least at any of the expat hospitals ( which I found really strange!).

HK may be your only option for the moment I'm afraid.
If you do go to HK get the podiatrist there to do a full biomechanics assessment on her not just remove the corns as they will definately come back unless they correct to cause ( i.e pressure on the corns sites).

If I can be of any further help, feel free to post me.

Hi MCPMIC,

I could not believe that there is no Podiatrists in Shanghai and thought that maybe I was looking in the wrong places. I appreciate your advice, especially about the assessment. Well when you do start your practice here you will have no competition so you should do well. Let me know on when you start as I could arrange your first customer. Thanks again, Leigh

Mcpmic is absolutely correct, you will more likely than not need some good orthotics sp? to help correct her arch and bone alignments.

Thanks tnmom! I will definitely check with her. Hopefully, I can get some quality arch supports because these types of things are unknown in China. (China seriously lacks behind 50 years in medical care)

Are you sure they are corns and not plantar warts. If they are plantar warts, a GP may be able to take care of it by 'freezing' them off using some kind of very cold liquid/gas thing ... at least that's what I did in the states. the treatment was pretty painful, and took more than one treatment, but it solved the problem.
