potential iphone hack

Postby tim Stone » Tue Jul 12, 2011 10:58 am

Hi guys and girls, i have an iphone 3gs and ive had it for some time now and never had any problems with it till saturday night when i was at a party. i noticed my phone was not behaving properly as it usually did. all the music was playing too fast, it kept losing service where it never did before and generally was not working like my phone.
so when i got home i decided to open it up and have a look inside. i found that the serial number on the back case did not match the serial number on the front case (the screen etc.) i got the phone brand new and its never been in for repair. i was hoping that someone could possibly confirm if all the components should have matching serial numbers inside the phone if it has never been fixed or tampered with.
i fear it may have been a deceitful hack.

many thanks for reading

The serial number is on the sim card holder.
Does that match the bottom of the box the phone came in?

Internal serial numbers don't necessarily match.

I don't know what the hell you thought you were doing opening it up though, its not user serviceable for the most part. You're more likely to break something.

The easiest thing is to turn the phone off / on again and see if it works properly then. Hold the power button for a few seconds and swipe to turn off the phone.
If its still iffy then reinstall the software.

Before you do that though, ascertain if your phone is an unlocked or locked one.
Settings / General / About
Check the Model Number.

If the last two characters are LL then its US, if its ZZ or ZP its China / HK.
If you aren't sure, don't reinstall software, as its quite likely its a US locked phone, and reupdating will lock it, so be sure before doing anything softwarewise.
