Pu Dong Airport Arrivals

Postby SirFiddler » Thu Mar 20, 2008 5:20 pm

I used to have a hard time finding out if flights would arrive on time at the pu dong airport or not , calling the airlines is always a bit of a nightmare too, with their limited abilities to understand my chinese.
the pu dong airport website is ridiculous and about as useful as a one legged man in an arsekicking contest...

been testing this website for the last two days and it seems pretty accurate...

not sure if anyone needs it but i thought i'd share it anyways

This whole airline information thing is basically my job.

Just been looking at that site for a while, comparing what information they've got with what the live airport system has for flights from Europe, short haul from Korea, domestic flights etc.

It's very accurate everywhere you look.

Basically a fantastic site, the best such thing I've seen.

I am using that as well. The only site with reliable info.

Always preferred using the "flightstats" site.
Seems more complete (i.e. more flights listed) than the "shanghaiairport.com" site.

Flightstats provides info for other airports, too.
Good for checking for when someone should actually have arrived at their destination.

i had a friend come in last night on FM and it did not show the estimate arrival time until 20 minutes prior to arrival, so you might want to keep an eye on them mate...

Cheers Mr Fidds, 20 minutes is probably all I need to jump in a taxi to Pudong, plus I can ask them to call as they're about to take off or something.

Usually takes another 20 minutes to get through Immigration and Baggage Claim, so this is not too bad.

Your lucky. 20 minutes in Immigration and Customs. I enter China at Pudong about 20 times a year. It seems I am always on the longest and the slowest line in Immigration and baggage claim is an adventure. One time my luggage was still in Chicago and I was In Shanghai. I stood at the carosel for about 45 minutes, when all the luggage was gone and therie were three of us standing there without any luggage, someone from the airline approached us with our names on a list and told us our luggage didn't make the flight. This person let us stand waiting for our luggage until the very end. They could have told us while we were still on the plane. Of course I was very calm and collected when I gave them my address in Shanghai, esp since I was going to GZ the next day.
Even when everything goes smoothly, which is most of the time, I would say it takes a good 45 minutes to deplane and leave the airport.

Yeah, both my wife and I have been getting through rather quickly.
However, now that I've said this "20 minutes to get through" out in the open, my next return will likely be more like yours (especially now that we'd be arriving at T2).

Life never fails me in that way.
Guess I'd better not send through check-in anything I can't afford to lose.

BTW there is a nice lightweight mobile version: mobile.flightstats.com

Mostly text based links, loads very quickly on my phone.

Love the new terminal 2: imigration 2 minutes, baggage 5 minutes. Will change soon for sure. When Pudong airport opened it was there so too.

Used flightstats last week. Checked the flight in the morning (ATL-PVG) - on time. Checked later in the morning and it said that the flight was getting in an hour early! The good news is that I found out that I could get from my apartment (near SciTech Museum) to the arrivals gate in about 20 minutes, love the Maglev. Bad news - when I got there the plane was expected at the scheduled time.

Weird things happen here that change arrival times at the last minute like the time I came in from Chicago and everything was to be ontime in Shanghai when on final approach, just before touchdown Shanghai airport is declared closed for military exercises and we are diverted to Beijing. Took 7 more hours until airport was re-opened and we were back in Shanghai.

The site works fine for me in English, just checked it and also bookmarked it. It has been very helpful for me and so far since March 2008, I have been using it to get info with no problems.

Hi All,
I am an Indian from MI and will be travelling to Shanghai in a week for a bizz trip. Would request some pointers for a first timer to China with transportation and communication. If you can please send me a line indi_michigander@ yahoo.com will appreciate it a lot.

Anyone have any idea of the procedures for 'swine flu' that the authorites are taking for flights from UK these days? Got my brother coming over soon and want to fore-warn him if possible. Naturally, things can change on a daily basis but any up to date info will be appreciated.
