Pudong or Puxi?

Postby claire4 » Tue Aug 14, 2007 11:22 pm

Hi,
I am looking for a school and an apartment in an expat environment. My husband will be working in Puxi. Is it better for him to travel back and forth, or for my son? What are the advantages to live in Pudong compare to Puxi? I am not a suburban person at all. I think I will have no choice than have my son in a school in Pudong. He is entering 9th grade, he is a basketball player, so he is looking for a school with a good team. He would like to have friends around where we live. He would like to be in a real international environment at school. In Tokyo, the school was 80% Asian students even if they advertised to have students from 40 different countries.
If you have any answers to my questions, please feel free to suggest schools and living locations indicating why you like them.

^ ah its the age old question of every new expat to shanghai.

Puxi has access to his work obviously but many families seem to live in Pudong due to the large number of schools and new apartment buildings/villas on that side of town. Maybe you could get a serviced apartment in Pudong first to see if your husband can handle the trek to puxi everyday. Also depends what part of puxi his office is in.

Do a search on the forum as well as i think this has been covered numerous times before.

You could live in the Hongqaio area of puxi, with its international schools, american style housing and there's a bar area too and its not too far away from Xujiahuai and other facilites, also the weather feels a little fresher out there too.

Concordia in Pudong has a great girls team and a decent boys team. About 50 different nationalities.
Can't love'em, can't trust'em, all their egos are funny.
