Purchasing an apartment in Shanghai

Postby LBessie » Mon Apr 13, 2009 11:18 am

Hi everyone,

I would like to know if some of you have already purchased more than one apartment in Shanghai as a foreigner. I heard it is impossible to own more than one flat (still true?) but I am wondering if some foreigners managed to do so without infringing the law and still having their own names on all the papers. It would be great if some people would share their experience!
Thanks!

According to the file《关于规范房地产市场外资准入和管理的意见》(建住房. [2006]171号) you can buy it as residence, and you must work/study and live in Shanghai more than one year. Yep, its impossible to own more than one flat.

you can read the following article, hope this information can help you.

^ True.

Although not legal, it is possible. I would probably not advise it, though, because if you get caught you'll probably get FITA.

I heard that it is not a purchase, but rather a lease. How long is the lease for? Or is it cheaper to just be paying 10RM a day to lodge at the Fu Chan Youth Hostel? (It is 200RMB a month if bargained to stay for an entire month!)?

Its _still_ possible to buy > 1 apt.

Your real estate broker will help you with all the paperwork as will the bank if you have the money.
Need to be in different districts though.

Not going to go into more detail than that.
