1 mu is approx 666 m2, so there are about 15 mu in 1 hectare.
To be clear: acre is NOT metric (like most American units of measurement, no idea how you can guys can see any logic in your system).
Mu is (as far as i know) not used in Chinese real estate for housing surfaces, only for land surfaces (only used with 2 feet on ground floor level).
Honest mistake.
I don't think we pretend that its logical or better than metric, but it is the system we know and its works fine for 99% of Americans. In fact, the more the Europeans and Canadians moan about unwillingness to be more logical, the more likely we are to stay with the present system.
Of course, the science crowd in the US are big proponents of converting to metric, but their last big push in the 1970's crashed and burned--probably because that same 99% of Americans cannot do the math required to appreciate the simplicity of the metric system.
But, even if Americans could do the math, the metric system would still fail to take hold for the simple reason that its terminology can never hope to evoke the same imagery as the terms of the present system...
