Quality Socks and Undies for 3 year old boy ?

Postby cookiemonster » Wed Aug 17, 2005 4:06 pm

Does anyone know where to find reasonable quality socks (ankle style plain) and undies for a 3 year old boy ?

I understand that socks are hard to find at this time of the year because most kids are in sandles, but his pre school requires that they wear socks. I have been able to find some very poor quality undies, but the sizing only seems to start at around 4 to 5 year old sizes. I have tried at Carrefour, Lotus, Babaiban (if that's how you spell it - level 8 in Yaohan / Nextage). Prefer location in Pudong, but willing to travel to Puxi too.

Don't know for sure if they'll have what you need, but you might want to check out the Nihong Children's Market on Puwan (Pu'an?) Lu, just behind Hong Kong Plaza (which is on Huai Hai Rd.) in Puxi.

It's an "underground" market, meaning below ground, in the basement. I think there's a bus station right next to it. You'll see a large sign posted outside above a wide set of steps, next to where the buses are all parked, with photos of Caucasian children and the name "Nihong Chidren's Market" in English. Go down the stairs and you're there.

They have lots of shops that specialize in kids' clothes, toys, shoes and accessories (plus a few that sell women's clothes). Many of the items are export quality and brands (Stride Rite, Barbie, Skechers, Hello Kitty, etc.) and I have purchased quality clothes, undies and shoes for my daughters there. I believe that many/most of the goods are authentic and not knock-offs, but do be careful to inspect closely before you buy, as some items are dirty or have defects, and some of the shoes I've seen are "samples" that aren't quite the same quality as the real thing.

I was just there today, looking for back-to-school shoes. I found a pair of leather Stride Rite penny loafers for one daughter and paid 120 RMB. Unfortunately, they didn't have anything appropriate to fit my other daughter, so I'll have to buy hers from Stride Rite in the U.S. and pay 3.5 times more for them!

TXMom,

you may be able to find Stride Rite shoes for your daugther at a little export shoe store on Xiang Yang Lu. I have bought several pairs for my daughter and they are only about 80RMB for the real thing of great quality. They also have a lot of other brand name shoes for older kids/toddlers. It's not inside the market, but on the right side of the road about 1 block towards Fuxing Lu on XiangYang Rd.
