questions about the Qi-bao (minghang) area

Postby powderfinger » Thu Aug 23, 2007 11:13 pm

Hello, I am looking to move into the qi-bao (sp?) area of Ming Hang. I have been walking around that area lately and it seems quite nice (feel free to comment on any obvious pros+cons of this area--all of Shanghai is quite new to me). I have had a hard time locating any flatshare offers in the area.

Since seeing a few agents in the area, I have seen some ok places around 2500RMB. However, I figure that sharing a place with someone for around 5000RMB would get me a top notch apt. However, I have had no luck in finding anyone advertising for a flat share in the area online. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could better conduct a search in this area? I am getting a little tired of all the footwork and games with agents and landlords.

Any info would be appreciated,
Thanks

I would start by seeing some higher priced places and offering much, much less.

Also, try advertising in the classifieds here, plus on Craigslist. I don't think the area you're talking about has a lot of expats, so your best option might be to post an ad in Chinese, on a Chinese website, and see if you could get a Chinese roomate that way.

It is a nice area except for the planes landing/taking off to/from Hongqiao airport, you have 2 hypermarkets (Carrefour and Hymall), 2 or 3 nice new malls, a skiing place, an outside pool, a westerned clinic, a sports club, nice yoga club, nice massage and a nice old town.
There are very few westerners in this area. I am not sure about the possibility to share something with someone but you can try to see with the numerous real estates agency in a very very big compound called "Vancke" on qixin road (close to wuzhong road).

good luck

Is it correct that the way to pronounce 'Vancke' is 'wanker'? Ran into an English guy in Starbuck who said that's where he lives (at least I thought that's what he said...lol)
