Quiet Residential Areas in Shanghai

Postby philiplee » Sun May 16, 2010 9:05 pm

Can someone please tell me where are the quiet residential areas are in Shanghai within a 10Km radius of the city. We don't like traffic noise nor construction noise. We are also looking temporary accom. in an apartment that comes with western style soft beds? Any recommendations. Would be nice if it is near an area like Soho but that's not so important

Pretty tall order. Depends on your budget. This is a city of 20M and there is going to be noise issues. A friend of mine just found a decent garden apartment near Century Park in PuDong and it was tucked away down a lane, so the noise really manageable ( and noise was on the top of his list also). Off the top of my head I would say get a villa out in PuDong ( Jingqiao for instance ). Western style beds...hmmm, maybe check in serviced apartments, but they tend to be closer to downtown.
If you need a decent v-p-en, pm me for one that works well.

Renting an apartment on the highest floors of a tall building helps, if it has double-paned windows too, you need to be higher than 35 floors though. However, in an apartment, there's no guarantees that there won't be 6 to 18 months of decorating noise from a neighbor(s).

This city has one of the highest population densities in the world. Psychologically, it would be better to come here expecting noise constantly rather than thinking you will find a way to avoid noise once you get here.

Definitely heed the advice of Michael and CoffeeHawk_0 on the noise here.

But I would say that of all the places I have lived in Shanghai, the French Concession would have to be the quietest area. But it tends to be in the greener part which is borders Fuxing Xi Rd and Wulumiqi Rd and Huashan Rd and Huai Hai Xi Rds.

Not so many short term accomodation located there though but there are some on the border like Jing An 8 and Versailles.
