Quirky things about China. What have you noticed?

Discussions on living in China, culture shock, locals and expats, and all things related.

Been in Jakarta one week.... China is a joke, really... If it wasn't for making money, the "cheap" **** to export and the expat friends to hang out with, why on earth would anyone want to be in China??

Really! Think about it, as soon as you get to China the first thing you do is "work around" all the **** so much you forget what you gave up!

Do you hang out with locals? HAHA yeah right! Instead you made expat friends and hang out with them, go to expat bars and restaurants, right? If you DO hang out with locals they are just a step away from being a foreigner anyway

I'm in Jakarta, I don't have one expat friend, they are all locals, the clubs and restaurants are local as well... I haven't gone local, I am just as I was. For me this tells me that Chinese culture and just too far away from my comfort zone, to stay in China means to continuously make allowances, the eternal "This Is China".

yeah "the" artist is an annoying SOB. He usually finds me about once a week and starts to make one of his crappy pictures. For years he's tried to get me to pay with no luck:lol:

Anyone encountered a colleague who clips her nails WHILE in the office? There you are typing and suddenly it goes *clip*, *clip*, *clip*... -_-"

no peripheral vision AT ALL! tunnel vision only, and even that is only a metre deep. like stunned rabbits in the headlights when you are riding towards them they just want to aim them selves up. When i used to work as a ski instructor we would teach people that if they want to ski the trees, look at the gap between them, not at he tree as you will inevitably hit the tree. I think they haven't worked that out yet.

and they have no need for their sternocleidomastoid (neck turning muscle) as they don't ever turn there heads, ever.

Ahhh you noticed this have you?

I love how these Chinese on bikes cruise through an intersection and never turning their head even when a truck slams on its brakes screeching and blasting their horn. Anyone other but Chinese would **** in their pants head turned and face locked into a scream!

Yup, on another planet...
