Recommendation For REAL Hot Springs in CHina

Postby a_Man » Mon Dec 10, 2012 11:47 am

I am considering a short getaway to a Hot Spring nearby Shanghai after the New Year...
My Chinese colleagues and friends were competent to give me some recommendation without more clarifying if the water is from underground or just a re-heated tap water.

I'm looking at places :
Nearby Shanghai or within 2-3 hours by train/bus
Mineral natural water
Nice accommodation for 2 to 3 days
Solid food
Foreign friendly standard

Any recommendation/suggestions are welcome

How about a 2-3 days trip to japan or taiwan?
Its 2-3 hr by plane and you can have better quality of everything you mentioned gauranteed.

Asked my colleague who's from Nanjing, if those so called hot springs nearby are real, she said no.

Haha if 2-3hrs by plane, I'd really recommend Tengchong, in Yunnan, love the place, and sure the hot spring's from underground

Japan. The ones in China are epic fail.

Taiwan in a pinch. Some nice resorts/hotels in the suburbs of Taipei. They are real.

^ found these sites:
http://www.chinatravel.com/yunnan/tengchong/
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g120 ... tions.html

No direct flight, have to do Shanghai-Kunming-Tengchong. Anyway I love Yunnan, been there 4 times to different destinations, but all with distinctive features. Of Yunnan travel, I rank Tengchong and Xishuangbanna my top two, quiet, local, with less tourists, and lots GREEN!!! :)

I spent the last weekend with my GF at a hot spring resort nearby a small mountain called shushan in suzhou city. It's a chinese managed 4 star hotel with decent service and pleasant environment.
It's a new facility, villa style with access to a bio-village and local food.
For those seeking a quick getaway over the weekend/xmas holiday can google/baidu the location:
Leisure Square of Shushan Bio-Village Suzhou
or PM for the address

Note: The taxi fare from suzhou railway station to that village is about 100RMB!

Did you like the resort and the pools? I've often thought of going there but haven't yet

Yep, I did had a nice time there also enjoyed the unlimited access to the sauna and the pools. The massage costs extra.
The place is not crowded and no elderly couples, the majority are in their 20s or 30s.
You can rent a giant tandem bike for 40RMB/2 hours to tour the small villa and buy the eggs or dine, from time to time you have to walk uphill and later enjoy the highspeed while riding downhill.
