If you like James Blunt and other middle of the road singers then you will be spoilt for choice! But a good record store...not here as far as I know.

There are no mega- CD shops, and I've never seen modern vinyl for sale.

MP3s or imports.

Yeah, bummer

You know there are no stores that carry 72RPM singles, 8-tracks or phonograph cylinders either? Exactly what expectations did you have when you came to China?

Strangely there are shops where you can get 8-track cartridges! Or, tell a lie, I've seen them in one so presuming there might be others. I found one dvd shop which had a wall of cassette tapes. And I've found a shop with vinyl records...but not the kind, I imagine, that the OP is after...classical, jazz. musicals, all old stuff. And I've seen 78s for sale by the roadside in the old town... But no proper record/cd shops, at least I haven't found any yet.

man i thought there'd be ONE place selling records in a metropolitan area of 20 million-ish people. i talked to the djs and m2, they said the get their vinyl from japan. also, he said there is a place selling dj equipment at baoshan lu, and metioned "the fifth floor". anyone know what he may have meant? thanks

There is one place that has a small selection. It's at the entrance of a small Chinese apartment complex near WuLuMuQi Lu and WuYuan Lu: The Blocks Between FuxingLu and WuYuan Lu. Next to a fruit stand. They have plenty of CDs, but underneath they have vinyls. You might find some hidden gems in the mix. I have found some new vinyls there, but don't have a turntable, so didn't buy.
