Do most companies provide a relocation manager for an expat family? We are at the beginning stages of a move to Shanghai sometime this year. For example, if we take a look-see trip, is there usually someone to take us around to schools, housing, etc. or is it usually up to the family to arrange for this? Any help would be appreciated.

Depends on the company. Mine offered the services through a local real estate agent, but since I was not moving directly to SH, I passed on the offer.

The local agent would show housing and schools in the area, based on a fairly extensive questionaire.

The relocation company in Shanghai I encountered was quite impressive. The agent was speaking in excellent english and really helpful. She can be contacted at almost any time of the day.

But Dr K was right, depends on the company.

She took us to see kindergartens, took us shopping to find toys for our children, took us to buy mobile phones, even took us food shopping.
