Residence permit sticker on passport

Postby fl223 » Sun May 07, 2006 5:49 pm

Once you have the residence permit sticker in your passport, do you need a separate document to show that you have a work permit?

I can't seem to find an official answer anywhere.

Thanks anyone who can help.

the work permit is a separate, dark red book, similar to a passport. A residence permit is just that, residence, no implication of work status.

it's a very dark red/maroon, has gold embossed lettering, says "people's republic of china" at the top, large gold seal in the middle, and "alien employment permit" at the bottom

CoffeeHawk is right. You must get the employment book which is seperate but your company should do that for you anyways. Many people in town though neglect that they need to have one, and many employers look the other way. So be careful and talk to your boss.

In my case, i got my residence permit as a dependent. The company who hired me doesnt know anything about this kind of situation. Will i still get the alien employment permit?

if the company is willing to go through the process of obtaining a "z" visa for you then you will get the alien employment permit. i am not sure if the spousal "z" can be converted to a functioning "z" without going through all the hoops. have someone at your company call the psb to discuss the individual circumstances without naming names. the person there should be able to offer guidance on what can be done.

I don't remember getting this Alien Employment Permit thing, but I do remember a maroon book with the Expert-something (or something-expert, can't remember - 专家资格证书 I think). My company's keeping that book. Are you referring to that?

The Alien Employment Permit is a laminated card (roughtly A4 sized) that is issued prior to obtaining the Z visa. After one has the Z visa, the books are granted. Perhaps a different process if not a Z visa.

I never had a laminated card, and the words "Alien Employment Permit" are printed on my maroon book. But, I don't recall what type of Visa I have (Z or something else, but it is for working here long term), and things change fast around here too.

the booklet and card are two different things entirely. good chance you never saw the card. i received one five years ago and another one a few months ago (the card) and the books. or there is a chance you went through different routes.

if you do, you would have it. it's the first step for a z visa. don't worry!
