Oh, Max5i0, yes the Saturday morning meetings are still going strong. We typically meet around 11:30-12:00 at the Coffeebean close to the Citi Bank in the Cloud nine Shopping mall.

^ That's covenient... go to ZhongShanPark Station by Line 3, go into Cloud 9 Shooping center (Dragon's Dream in chinese), get to ground floor (1st floor in chinese)...look for Coffee Beans & Tea Leafs (in between some jewelery shops and banks)

Don't be nervous if you can't see any group, people turn up around/after 11am these days.

- Cloud nine's Chinese name is pronounced "Long Zhi Meng"
- The Coffeebean is located almost next to the Citi bank (directional signs towards this bank are provided on the ground floor of the shopping mall).
- We ussually sit dead in the middle of the shop.

More or less. You may not find people there much before noon, though. I generally arrive around 12:45. And because smokers are in the minority, the group generally meets in the rear of the main non-smoking section - at the tables in front of the divider window. It may be a small group this week - many of the regulars are away.

So, this Saturday it's October first. and the start of the holiday. Now, what do you guys think? Will 'our' CBTL do anything special? (Pick one or more):

1) No, business as usual. There will be a mild smattering of people, including that cheap group of laowai occupying the best seats drinking free refills all the time. No need to do anything special.
2) No, not really. The place will only be deserted of locals (all travelling), only the Laowai will be there. Just give them their coffee and then use the opportunity to have a paid nap behind the counter.
3) Kinda, as the laowai, upon discovering that point 2 happend, will take over the place and start a party. Now CLBT staff will look annoyed as the laowai disrupt the perfect opportunity to have a paid afternoon nap.
4) Yes, they will be giving away huge discounts in the hope of luring the few people who did not evacuate the city to do some mass-sightseeing. All this to prevent that the laowai will take over and start excessive partying in accordance with point 3 (Ignoring the fact that the cheap laowai will totally abuse the discount and still create a party.)
6) Yes, anticipating point 2 and fearing 3 & 4, they will close down the place for the holiday period.
7) Yes, coffee will be served in special cups featuring the Chinese flag and national anthem. Music will be changed to old time revolutional favorites ("The east is red", anyone?)
8 ) Other... (please specify)

this thread has been quite for a while...but i believe the meeting is going on as usual.

I fell sick during the holiday and still not fully recover, so I've missed the meeting for pass few weeks. Should be able to join next week (fingers crossed)

The last posting for the Sat even is Dec 2009. I am a bit skeptical right now about the meeting on Sat. Are we still on? I am a newbie to Shanghai and I would love to meet some new friends or any friends in Shanghai at this point. Pleae confirm the Sat meeting is still on, therefore, I can join the event and meet some new cool friends. = ) Take care everyone.

Anyway, we're very much on, every Saturday -- people arrive between 11 and 12:30 -- we stay up to 1:00 or 1:30 before heading out for lunch to some place nearby.

Not sure how quiet it has been over Christmas, but I am back in town again and fully intend to be there tomorrow. (as ususal probably around 12:00)

True, there is no offical SHExpat representative at our Saturday meeting. But still ...I feel slightly offended somehow. We are the "original" one, and we do still meet every Saturday. Yes, it is usually the same crew showing up, but newcomers are always welcome. So why demote us ???

On the bright side.... if we just keep posting a lot, we will still be on the top of the board. HA!

By the way, not sure who of you regulars can be there this Saturday (21st), but I have to be in the office. (Don't you just looooove this Chinese custom of substitute workdays for holidays?)

Hi,Thanks for your efforts! This is marketing department from ShanghaiExpat. Now we ShanghaiExpat only has 2 Weekly events, one is Wedensday night mixer and the other one is Sunday Coffee Meeting. For the Saturday one, I think it was long time ago our original marketing department organized it. Later on we cancelled it for some reasons. But there are still many members would like to go to Zhongshan park at Saturday afternoon. That kind of occasion we can't control because its the attendees preference. But we have to state is it's not our ShanghaiExpat's weekly event and no specific staffs and special deal there. Our coffee meeting event is on Sunday instead of Saturday!
