and there are MANY diseases that are transmitted from infected humans via airborne and contact routes. So seeing people in food stores means what hygiene wise?

many communicable diseases are spread by people's hands and I am sure you can imagine where many an unwashed hand has been in China before handling food products in a food shop. P*ss is sterile and therefore has far less potential to pass on disease than human hands.

Yeah. Right on Reno. Drinking pxss has saved many a life. viz: coalminers stuck underground, people in life rafts at sea.........
How about the "Golden shower" LOVE IT. Never heard of anyone dying from it.
Yep, pee is sterile, and the LEAST of our worries.
Look for other shxt, like filthy hands.

Muesli and other grains has rat turds and hairs in it, as well at larva, pupa and bugs. Oh an on occasion a digit of human origin.
In some countries you can sue the company if you find a finger tip in your poridge but not for the other stuff.

Are we talking rats, or mice?
No matter where you go you will encounter rats and mice...
Mice, pesky small...rats,,,much bigger, much more aggressive.
I can tell you the story of me driving down Sheffield avenue in
Lincoln Park Chicago, in front of MULTIMILLION dollar homes in my
squad car years back, driving over a rat, and the CAR shook from it
the rat was so large...thought I hit a small dog or cat.
Does not matter where you live, where you are on this planet
(save Antarctica), you are never more than 5 feet from an insect,
and no more than 20 feet from a rodent.
Yeah,,,I am not a fan of them...But ShangHai is not exempt.
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?

Not that I'm fond of bugs or pests, but is it a normal reaction for the children of today to freak out when they find an ant or fly in their apartments?

As kids, we loved playing in the garden (alongside the bugs), but seems that children living in Shanghai are horrified if they encounter a bug anywhere near them!

What amount and kinds of poison do you think is used in apartments where expats live, to protect their sensitive eyes from seeing the bugs. Various forms of trap and bait would be better.
I've seen a number of babies and toddlers, sans nappy, in carts or being carried about.

^well the smell of the stuff I've seen the gardeners spraying, is enough to choke you and cause a serious asthma attack - so, I probably don't want to know what's in it?! :(

Amazing that cockroaches still manage to survive though...
