Sean Penn - Yanker

In the dictionary under "Sean Penn" it reads "American actor and professional yanker" - Def. 'Yanker' - a Yank and a bit of a wanker.'

This guy could be a friend of the regime over here as well.

And yet, the need to stereotype is somewhat self-degrading.

Chris Penn was cool in Reservoir Dogs! But this guy is a prat. He is a Communist - sucking up to his Commie mates in South America. A bunch of corrupt banana republics. This guy needs a lesson from the Paras, courtesy of the working end of an SA80.

At the very least Cameron should ban him from entering the UK to make films.

Why? Because it points out the uncomfortable truth on many issues instead of liberal EU propaganda?

No, because the quality of journalism is pathetic. The article suggests that Sean Penn was "grinning smugly" and that Chavez is a "crackpot". There are many newspapers of every political persuasion that have journalists with the ability to write without resorting to cheap tabloid insults.

On the issue of The Falklands, the only people who's opinion should really matter is the citizens of the islands. It's up to them.

Ben Fogle is quoted in the Daily Mail article thus: "'Let us not forget that 253 airmen, soldiers and sailors lost their lives protecting the Falklands".

I think the total amount was actually more like ten times that figure. But only if you count the damn foreigners.

649 Argentinians, 253 Britains and 3 Falkland Islanders died in the war.

And the Falklanders have consistently said that they are British and wish to remain so. This present sabre rattling by the Argies is about oil, not some windswept islands over which they have a very dubious legal claim.

No doubt about it. The reason that Britain wants to keep them and Argentina wants them is the same - Oil.

Its British oil. The Yanks control most of the rest, so in my opinion the natural balance is being maintained. With the departure of Gaddafi and friends with the recent CIA and MI6 engineered 'popular' uprisings, that control looks certain to be extended. And if the Argies fancy another war, I think they will find the British more than obliging. In fact, fighting properly organised military forces would be a welcome change from endless brushfire wars with ******* and Terry Taliban. But the Argies are not stupid enough to try it on again, not after the drubbing they received in 1982.

Perhaps Yanker can make a film denouncing the 'Imperialists' for denying the poor Argies oil that they lacked the technology to discover or exploit. There certainly will be no more Sean Penn films aired in Custer's house!

You called the Argies 'savages' (how rude!), I just called them 'Argies' (which is not very insulting unless you are some kind of liberalist). Nobody wants a war, and we are not the ones trying to start one. I think Penn is a **** stirrer.

"Gaddafi killed. Libyans rejoice. Just For Men stock plummets."

You think I'm nasty, just read what Yanker wished on his opponents:

I have to agree with Yanker on this one - I also wish rectal cancer on my critics too!

I suppose nobody, including OP (who posted the link), actually read the Daily Mail article far enough to observe that Penn made these comments in his official capacity as Ambassador-at-Large for Haiti.

Custer, is it OK for ambassadors to enunciate the official positions of the countries they represent? Or is that not part of their job description?

Answer the question, or your entire thread becomes FAIL.

I don't think its very diplomatic to wish diseases upon people, and I doubt whether Haiti takes this view. Penn is merely drawing attention to the issues in a bold way. But therein lies the double edged sword of utilising celebrities to raise awareness - they often say stupid things, or hold dodgy opinions and believe that because they make films they somehow have insight into other fields.

Some of you think I'm being extremist by attacking Sean "Yanker" Penn. Well, go to the following link for the British Army Rumour Service and read what serving and former British soldiers think about Penn, the Falklands issue and Argentina. Not recommended for those of a liberal bent!

Custer, you should reread your own thread. I don't think anyone has suggested you are an extremest for attacking Sean Penn. I called you a racist because you used an obviously racist term.

A poster on 'ARRSE' summed up the image problem of the Falklands and Mr. Penn's attack quite well, and I quote:

"The Bennies [army slang for Falklanders] need to get people into America, telling the tale of how their brave little islands were invaded by moustachio'd Hispanics, fascists who duffed up their granny and shot their dog, and scattered landmines all over the place.

A movie in which the islanders are rescued by a crack team of Rangers led by a wisecracking Texan Colonel (Tommy Lee Jones) and assisted by a band of local resistance fighters (led by Chuck Norris), in a heartwarming story of resistance, democracy and the American way, should do the rest."

I've got a horrible feeling from reading your admonition of me that you may also fall into the "Yanker" category.

Language! Remember you are writing on the world's most carefully edited discussion site. You will be pleased to hear that I had my hand slapped by the management for describing Arabs as persons who wear tea-towels upon their heads! They certainly have more fun on 'ARRSE'.

At least Penn makes Obama look like a patriot!

Let's not forget that without the help of France probably the Argies would have won it all.
