Second hand books. Book club / Exchange / Sales in Shanghai

Postby Pierrro » Fri Apr 04, 2008 11:50 am

To All book lovers...

I am very sad that the second hand bookshop of my friend Mavis will shut in Hongkong at the end of the week...
However I was able to buy as many books as a suitcase will accept (around 100) this week when I was there and after a nice loooong discussion with the airline to avoid overweight charge have them now over in Shanghai !

I'd like now to setup a Second hand book Club / Exchange / Sales in Shanghai for books lovers.

To make things simple I'd like to propose the following.

==> All books to be sold for 20 Rmb
==> All books sold will be bought back for 10 Rmb if brought back in a good condition withing 3 months to the sells.
==> I'll be exchanging (2 for 1) or buying (10 Rmb) books to people interested. However I'll be somewhat selective as wish to limit the working capital of the small "enterprise" to a reasonable number... ==> Again price for very nice books can be negotiated.

Books can be traded at my place where they are piled (mail me, I'll give the address) or we can meet in cafes/bar/ restaurant around town... Or they can be courrier directly to your home for a small fee (Courier fee... 20 Rmb withing the outer ring).

Comments/critics/sum-up on the books are most welcome (this is the all point of a book club). They will be published on a website to come shortly.

This venture is not to make money, but really to share love of books and build a buzz of second handbooks trading around Shanghai...ALL PROCEED WILL BE GIVEN TO CHARITY...

Cheers

Pierre.

I like books, especially literatures and the histories of western and the strategy of politics, if you have those kind books, I would like to buy or exchange with you~~~~~~~~~~~

Hi Nathalie...

If by literature you mean classical literature I have a few :

JANE EYRE : CHARLOTTE BRONTE
CLAUDE MICHELLET : SCENT OF HERBS

As of modern literature I can recommend

JOHN IRVIN : THE CIDER HOUSE RULES
JOHN IRVIN : A WIDOW FOR ONE YEAR

No western or strategy of politic so far. I am sorry... But I'll contact you again if I get any of those.

Have you been able to open the excell file by the way ?

Booklist has just been updated after a few exchanges...

However, I seems to be giving away more books than I get, Thus my inventory shrinks quickly (I am down to 69 books from an initial count on 97). Am still very interested to buy/Exchange your English / French books to grow the inventory :-)

I would like to help, but unfortunately that my books are either keeping in HK or in Paris now.

But I'll try to remember to get some books from HK when I go there later. :)

OK lah.

Am going to France for the next 3 weeks... I'll be coming back with a suitcase full of French books if anybody's interrested.

In the meantime no exchange of books... I'll resume this when I'm back (I can still book the book :-) if requested, and have it delivered after 20th of may).

And oh... I am looking for Jeffrey Archer Prison Diairy volume 2 (Purgatory) and Volume 3 (paradise). Anybody got that ?

so all those people who got books from pierro should prepare to swap at least another book back into the collection so that his exchange program can keep going.

List has been updated with new books (list is up to 101 available books look up) and even a dozen French ones...

Still looking for more books to increase the stocks. Especially French ones.

And for the love of books... I will give all benefits from month of June to the red cross for Earthquake/Myanmar Cyclone relief operations...

I guess... I'll get money for beers from an other pocket :-)

Pierro, I have a lot of books to add to the list. PM me your mobile so I can contact you and drop them off. Lots of English novels, even some hardbacks, great condition. Mostly legal or medical thrillers, plus a number of Oprah Book Club or Literature Award books.
