Second Terror Attempt

Postby YorkshireKing » Mon Mar 10, 2008 4:41 am

This time an attempt to bring down a plane en-route to Beijing from Urumqi, Xinjiang Province.

http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,, ... 92,00.html

Along with this, there has also been warnings of attacks during the Olympic Games.

Well Done China Southern.

"flammable material had been discovered in the plane's toilet."

Either this site is more mature than I thought or everyone just missed this line.

mhhh, might be propaganda to show everyone you'll be safe in china during the games while nothing ever happened, might not be...
either way, they would do good over here to tighten up on security a little...
last time i flew out they took nailclippers out of my handluggage, but let slip the pack of razorblades i had in there...ponder ponder...

From the article referenced above:

"Two militants were killed and 15 arrested in Urumqi on January 27.

Five police officers were wounded when three home-made grenades were thrown at them during the incident.

The gang had planned an attack targeting the Games, the Xinhua news agency reported Wang Lequan, who heads the Xinjiang region Communist Party, as saying.

"Those terrorists, saboteurs and secessionists are to be battered resolutely, no matter what ethnic group they are from," Mr Wang said.

Convenient, eh? Let the games begin!

Haha!

I was in Shenzhen coming to Shanghai and a Chinese guy comes walking out of the gate after just getting off a plane.

Then suddenly a jack knife, 4 inch blade, goes flying out of the bag and onto the floor, already half open.

"Woops!" he says and goes to pick it up off the floor. Giving a nice smile to everyone.

When you guys say "propaganda" to stories like this, are you just joking or is there a real chance the story is made up?

Real chance.

Do you really think the police raided a stronghold of 17 people and had them all connected to a plane crashing?

Sounds like they wanted to arrest 17 people and called them terrorists so that they could arrest them. Just like the Americans.

Reading comprehension problems? The 15 arrests/2 people dead were not directly related to this event. Also, there was no plane crash.

The 15 arrested and 2 dead are directly related, yes. They were the 'terrorists' or 'militants'.

And I know there was no plane crash. The news reported that the group had been planning a plane crash.

Reading comprehension problems?

Pardon, but you are basing this comment on what exactly?? There is a news article, quoted in Media inside and outside China and naturally should not be taken for granted but just as much should not be dismissed as propaganda so easily. Going over the article it all sounds reasonable and quite possible considering the global news.

Did you have that bookmarked? I agree that article doesn't really have much substance and the picture of the 'bb' guns is pretty lame and sensationalist, but the article did mention they were 'air powered weapons'.

So besides your incorrect reasoning, what else makes you believe this article is fake? I don't have a problem believing it could be made up, but nothing popped out to me as inappropriate. Of course it sounds pretty exaggerated, but thats just normal for the any media.

Busting 17 people at the same time is not common. That's the main thing that popped out at me.

Plus, the crash an airplane into Beijing sounds a bit odd. They didn't mention any evidence found, they basically just said they busted 17 people for plotting to down a plane.

And the article was meant to say that they are busting them without good reason and their evidence is BS. (Or in this case, maybe not actually telling us the real reason)

What the hell are you talking about? The 17 people thing happened in JANUARY. its now MARCH.

There was no plane crash, all the article says is there was something suspicious and they are questioning two passengers. No charges, just questioning. It sounds exaggerated as a 'terror attempt", to me it sounds like they smelt something 'chemical' (maybe alcohol lol) in the toilet and thats it. The article only mentioned the flammable **** from an 'anonymous source' so who knows how accurate that is. Also, I haven't checked other sources because, well, I don't really care.

And are you sure it wasn't just a huge piss after a night of drinking "white wine"?

yeah, listen up trendsetters. Unkle Reggie was in Beijing for some bloody economic forum they wanted me to attend. Beijing is a friggin sister city to Cessnock, and apparently after 4 drink driving convictions in a row on the same day, you have to go visit our bloody friends in Beijing. So these buggers took me out and got me rat arsed on friggin Bai Jiu and some nasty meat that looked as though it had already been eaten twice before.

Long story short, i ended up on a flight to Urumqi, after trying to get home to Cessnock. The bai jiu and nasty meat caught up with me in the crapper, and some bastard pulled the friggin emergency brakes on the plane when they saw what was lying in the bottom of the pan.

Like our Prime Minister recently said, "I'm friggin sorry"
