it was a metaphor, it's not supposed to be viewed entirely literally.
Ahh, we could argue the toss back and forth all night. You guys didn't like it, some of us did, no biggie.
I kind of felt the same with the Kill Bill movies, too hip for words, so much so that no-one noticed that they were shallow rip offs of other movies, that Uma couldn't really fight or that the plot was hackneyed. But many people would disagree.
Hair are your aeriels, they pick up signals from the cosmos and transmit them directly into the brain. This is the reason bald-headed men are uptight.

Kill Bill

Postby armie » Tue Oct 25, 2005 10:07 pm

I recieved the Kill Bill movies as a going away present when I came to Shanghai, but haven't watched them yet. I started the first one and fell asleep half-way through. Not that it was that terribly bad at that point - I was just tired. I'll give it another go but I'm not optimistic. Perhaps Tarantino is so inseperable from the irony of the 90s that all his post-Pulp work is doomed to fail.

wow, i must see Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter!! thanks for the suggestion.

Agreed on Fight Club argument. but, before i stop arguing, i must say i don't get the miscast statement about Helena (could be because i adore her in anything). i don't think the movie was really about fighting. physical fighting was such a small part of it. i think the larger part was about fighting against what we are told to be, how things 'have' to be. loss of material desire. ... whatever. it still pales in comparison to even the title "Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter"

the first kill bill at least was entertaining. Lucy Liu rocks. who cares about plot! i was disappointed by the second.

thanks VooDooKiDDo! i stole it...

Last night I had the misfortune to see "Honey" featuring Jessica Alba, which now qualifies as the WORST movie I have ever seen.

I can't believe i am admitting this.
I actually saw "Honey" as well. It wasn't that bad.... i mean, it was bad but bearable.

Maybe it does not make sense for us to comment a movie that someone else like or dislike. Different people will definitely have different tastes on a movie. I am wondering what the next popular movie will be here in Shanghai. Anyone has any suggestions on that?:)

i think it makes at least as much sense to comment on what movies people like or don't like, as it does to discuss what movies we think might come next to our lovely overpriced theatres (that i guarantee most of us do not frequent). With a recent release of "View From the Top," it might be anyone's guess what old crap they will recycle here.

of course there is a point to this post. we are looking for universal truth. and i personally think that there should be an ultimate bad movie that we can all agree is at least in our top ten worst movies of all time.

of course, if you want to start a separate thread entitled 'what movies are next?', please do.
[don't mind me, i am bitter and wasting time at work on a saturday evening. how sad is that?]

Nathalie,

Have you seen "American Pie" 1,2 and 3?

After all... It's a movie franchise based on a main character that's so horny he screws a pie.
