If you can read and write Chinese you can also look on rent.sh.soufun.com or rent.sh.bendibao.com or a lot of other Chinese websites. The problem with craigslist is that it is aimed at westerners= higher prices. I always find my places on the Chinese websites.

short term rentals during the expo will be in high demand. I would use a cheap serviced apartment if I were you. What's your budget? I've lived in many serviced apartments here.

You can also rent a regular apartment with one year lease, and break the lease at 3 month. You only need to pay 1 month extra.

That is if you have only paid one months security deposit.

That would be VERY unusual. Normal is two months, or more.

Not only misleading, but dishonest.

The owner can also cancel the lease contract with one-month penalty, and trust me, when they do it, they won't feel misleading or dishonest.

If you feel bad, give them three months extra if you like. It is probably much easier to find an apartment with 1-year lease, but then pay 6 months of rent for 3 months of stay, than to find a short-lease apartment.

@johnqh: To sign a legal contract with the full intention of breaking it, is dishonest in my book.

All you would achieve is to harden up the landlord, who will then be demanding 3 months deposit, which will not be any help to the people following.

Your statement is misleading, in that the LIKELY LOSS from breaking a contract would be two or three months rental, which is a different sum altogether.
