Not sure what you mean by foreign. But if it's English books and magazine you are after then Garden Books in Changle Lu near Shanxi Lu is small but might have what you're looking for. And the coffee was good the last time I went.

It's not the best and you can't have a coffee there but there's a pretty decent one on Fuzhou Lu just west of Shan Xi Lu with lots of modern fiction and non-fiction titles.

Garden book store, ChangleLu, at the corner of Shaanxi Lu.
They have a great selection of photo and design books.

I buy my books mostly at Charterhouse bookstore Time square on Huaihai Rd (B1 floor, there is Cityshop there as well).

Ah yes, Charterhouse is pretty good too, but again, no coffee in the store. They do at least have a few armchairs, so I guess you can BYO coffee!
