No

ok, can you name some brands that are in HK but aren't available in SH?

A few months ago I would've said Miu Miu, but they've recently opened in the Shanghai Center. Is there a Fendi store here? That's probably the only one I can think of. Bvgari?

All those stuff has been here for long time.
All the luxury brands are in Shanghai, some even have their flagship stores here.

Sounds about right.
I don't really shop in Shanghai, I just know they have everything here, at +30% price.
All the China people who can afford to shop at those stores, most of them go shopping outside of China.

a few guys talking about shopping. Not right. Anyway,

I saw John Varvatos' store in Macau, Hard Rock Hotel, if not mistaken. haven't seen with my own eyes in Hong Kong but their website shows one.

Shopping in Shanghai sucks just because the manner of the shop assistant, that kills it all. Hong Kong is not so great, mainly because a lot of mainland customers.

Nope.
If I need something in a hurry, I will get it here.
I go out of China frequently, I usually buy liquor/wine/cosmetics at airport duty free shops, and everything else back in USA or Europe.

Would you take into account of better service, nice delicious food, cheaper groceries, cheaper wine, fresh groceries, cheaper shopping, more varieties of brands to choose for shopping, no great firewall of china, freedom of speech and last but not least less chinese barbarian behavior. When all these minor issues put into your balance scale. Would you consider staying in HK over SH?

Strictly my personal opinion.

better service: highend to highend, SH isn't noticeably worse than HK. HK wins on the low-mid end, if one does not frequent the low-mid end places, it makes little difference to them.

nice delicious food: no question, HK is better. Shanghai is blooming, give it several more years it will have more to offer. That being said, size still matters, I ran out of places to eat in HK after few months, here in Shanghai I didn't even get outside of Luwan and Huangpu district.

cheaper groceries fresh groceries: i don't hook at all, so that's of no concern to me, although I would assume Shanghai has fresh groceries too.

cheaper wine: eliminating taxes on wine is one of the good things HK government did :P but from what I could tell, at restaurants, that saving did not really get passed onto customers. it's only cheaper if you buy it from liquor store, again i don't hook so i don't really drink at home.

cheaper shopping: no doubt, designer brands are tax free. HK is one of the best shopping cities in the world.

more varieties of brands for shopping: hmm, i think SH is got every brand there is in HK, no?

no great firewall: i don't do any of the online networking site, so facebook and etc don't matter to me. it does suck though that i can't get on youporn.com

freedom of speech: those are big talks  not that i am ever eager to exercise that rights outside of china. in china so far i feel no need to say anything i am not allowed to.

chinese barbarian behavior: you mean like someone once said here a kid was taking a sh1t in a restaurant? what can i say? don't go to lowend places then you don't have problems.

The above being said, It really depends on the individual, what stage in life he/she is in, what his/her priorities are .... if i were to have a family, eat most of meals at home, don't go out much, hk and singapore will be looking pretty good to me.

Gee, I have to agree with you!!

No doubt Shanghai will evolve and some of the negatives will fade away over the next decade or three.

I just arrived Shanghai a month ago and i must say the night life here rocks! As compared to HK, there are NO cover charges here and there are so many clubs all over mega city Shanghai. I've been to lan kwai fong in HK before. The drinks there are quite expensive and there are also cover charges. But HK nightlife would still be good for a weekend or so.

John Varvatos store in soho on prince street, I think. Actually there are plenty of stores that are not in sh or hk, such as Abercrombie, Tom Ford, Diane Von Furstenberg, Peter Lam, Philip Lim (go figure, top chinese designers) Rock n' Republic, Banana republic, etc. Was just back in nyc last week have to say the shopping was great, not to mention how cheap USD is now

Sienna does not know what shopping is.
If the store doesn't anticipate your arrival, prepare what they think might interest you, and pour you some champagne while you look through things .... it ain't shopping :P

That's funny!I laughed out at the office...

Well, regardless of the money value in both cities, I think HK is a much better place to live - more convenient, people are more civilized and accepting of other culture and religions. I can walk out of my apartment and get whatever I want within 5 mins. The transportation is much quicker and people know how to keep social distance. Though there is bigger population density in HK, I don't feel it as crowded as in SH.

One thing I find it hard to tolerant is when SH people take the subway, they never have the sense of social distance. Even women, they love pushing their way with body parts, young or old. People would have no problem rubbing your arms and legs with their exposed skin even there's enough space. Good thing is, taxi here is cheaper than in HK, but taxi drivers here enjoy "showing you around the city" before they take you to your destination...

Kind warning though, the "body attacks" are from more than just pretty women... Good luck

Tom ford, diane Von furstenberg are at plaza 66 or near the miumiu flagship, acutely I am planning on opening a designer store at peoples square maybe next year which will sell rocks, citizens, seven for mankind, some gap brands, religion, etc so hang on!
All the things I really like are either immoral, illegal or fattening.
