Americans will not be able to afford even the daily necessities.
Life won't go on
That's a common but false claim also. Maybe I'm too old but guess what ? The US existed twenty years ago. We did fine. In fact, we did better twenty years ago than we do now, before we had the "advantage" of "cheap Chinese goods."
If we could turn back the clock to 1985 we'd be in Fat City.
Of course, we'd have to eliminate Wall Street, the major cause of American financial problems for the past two centuries, but the vast majority of American lives would be greatly improved by that action. That's one reason it's hard for me to get worked up over the WTC destruction. I just wish they'd hit Goldman-Sachs et al instead
If I eat steak and lobster everyday now, and I go broke, I go back eating instant noodles with spams like college days, no problem, I will survive.
But Somethings can not go back.
For many of those "cheap Chinese goods" that's filling up Walmart, Target, Costco and etc, there isn't USA domestic manufactures making the same stuff, they could not compete with the low Chinese pricing so they were out of business long time ago.
Even if they do get back at manufacturing those goods, the price will be much higher, a big percentage of the USA population today are just barely getting by, they can not afford any higher living expense.
P.S. I prοtest that Goldman Sachs comment.![]()

I would say what chinese become more independent, owning manufactures, brands and marketing. Yes, time of cheap socks is gone. Now they make ships, tracks, planes, telecommunication hardware, food, etc.. http://www.uschina.org/statistics/tradetable.html
Do you believe what car-sellers can draw money from Chinese when their business is dead? No way!![]()
PS: It is noticeable what US no longer be able to consume so much ... but World is big.
2009, China's Trade with the World ($ billion),export: 1,201.7 (100%)
2009, China's Trade with the USA ($ billion),export: 296.4 (24%)
