Your question contains a false dilemma. The Chinese government has very wisely exploited the American focus on short term profits in order to build up domestic (Chinese) economic infrastructure. The question is rather this: now that America has allowed its domestic manufacturing infrastructure to erode, what will happen when America can no longer afford to import cheap goods? Warren Buffett described the inevitable crisis elegantly with the following analogy: "Thriftville and Squanderville". http://seekingalpha.com/article/69786-t ... true-story

Why somebody make $5000 and somebody somewhere make $500 for SAME WORK ? In result, WANT YOU OR NOT, Americans will make that they actually worth and they will live lives what they can affords. Here will be new BEGIN.

That's a common but false claim also. Maybe I'm too old but guess what ? The US existed twenty years ago. We did fine. In fact, we did better twenty years ago than we do now, before we had the "advantage" of "cheap Chinese goods."

If we could turn back the clock to 1985 we'd be in Fat City.

Of course, we'd have to eliminate Wall Street, the major cause of American financial problems for the past two centuries, but the vast majority of American lives would be greatly improved by that action. That's one reason it's hard for me to get worked up over the WTC destruction. I just wish they'd hit Goldman-Sachs et al instead :(

If I eat steak and lobster everyday now, and I go broke, I go back eating instant noodles with spams like college days, no problem, I will survive.
But Somethings can not go back.
For many of those "cheap Chinese goods" that's filling up Walmart, Target, Costco and etc, there isn't USA domestic manufactures making the same stuff, they could not compete with the low Chinese pricing so they were out of business long time ago.
Even if they do get back at manufacturing those goods, the price will be much higher, a big percentage of the USA population today are just barely getting by, they can not afford any higher living expense.

P.S. I prοtest that Goldman Sachs comment. 8) :P

Yes, and what a good President you would be. After prohibiting credit, telling everyone who doesn't like it to GTFO (and slaughtering anyone who disobeys), you could make yourself President-for-Life, then Dear Helmsman, then The Cook With All The Pans, and finally get yourself officially recognised as a God.

Of course, the job would come with certain perks: two virgins per day, Louis Treize on tap, a vast gold-embellished faux-rococo palace full of furniture from Da Vinci, endless reports about your latest humiliations of the Foreign Devil on the State-run news, and a little room in the basement where you keep a couple of your most loathed enemies chained up. You can go down there and hurt them for a while (or watch someone else hurt them), until you are hard enough to do your thang with the next virgin.
The bottom line here is we must lower our cost base to make room for a lower margin product mix world and to grow our earnings going forward.

I heard about that statistic , BUT probably there LOADS of job what Americans unwilling to do or do it with higher cost. If it's not so, Chinese workers would loose job in favor of American ones. BUT THINGS ARE DIFFERENT NOW, right ?

Mexicans..Africans ...how many SAME guys in America live off benefits ?

If pigs will going to fly, these guys will make some work too.

Because the above post inflamed my curiosity I looked up how many of the 44 US Presidents were lawyers =27.
Scroll down the list and it looks like nearly half were lawyers.( How Many were Jewish lawyers
SO How many of the 27 presidents who were lawyers were also Jewish....

Seems off topic but if people read the thread they will see the subplot.

Sammy It caught my curiousity as well... (Ref: my posts above).

In wiki Q and A. No idea if it is right or someone's humour.

A majority of our presidents have been Jewish. The first Jewish president was none other than the father of our country and our first president, George Washington. All of our Jewish presidents have changed their last names to avoid anti-Semitism. For example, Abraham Lincoln was born Abraham Linkenstein[/quote

That's great information.....I knew Lincoln was shot in the Temple, but I didn't know he was Jewish. I thought George WaSHINGTON was famous for being the last White Man with the name Washington

That's not the same as you see it. About 60% of all these goods manufactured under American brands and owned by American companies. So, do you think they will voluntarily refuse to shake "money tree" of American consumers? Ha-ha-ha... No.
Riches gains more, poorest sells last crap, that is normal capitalistic model of the World. And USA economic does not work anymore, wherever they ordering in China, India or Bangladesh.

END of Western World. Century of Asia.

rickettyrabbit wrote:...China actually "feeds" the US...
Yes, China support USA in fear to lost market, lost all the investments if US will going bankrupt. Understandable, all these things are not forever. Imagine, if finally China will sell more to other countries and supply own market.. here will be END of "feeding", end of "American Dream" and End of America like "world killing  power, blah-blah-blah"

Remember USSR  ? Clock ticking .. http://www.usdebtclock.org/# Image

And who said China's young are without hope? 8)

The smartest part of your answer was "blah-blah-blah".

Can you please quote my original post about ? I said what "losers" are ever "losers" not depend where and when. Locals often can't see advantages of China because they young, unexperienced and probably too pessimistic about everything. Once again - China is not good place for seeking job, BUT it's (yet) nice place for business, period. Another question if you don't know that.

PS: 2 years gone and my prognosis about US becomes more pessimistic.

Seems what US seek for conflict when all debts will be forgiven (smart idea). So China unwilling do that because at last it is peaceful (good or bad) society and they used to make money with work(hard and less paid), but no aggressive wars.

What is 1 Trillion Dollars ? Actually total value of US property market is about 10 Trillions USD, so Chinese "virtually" owning EVERY tenth AMERICAN HOME. You can imagine, what country called CHIMERICA.

I love the F spiral. Some perfect thing in a world of crap.

The catalyst for war -
Everyone, I mean everyone, stops purchasing Chinese made goods and then not being focused on manufacturing and trade, nothing to occupy them.
..."What! no one wants to buy Made in China".
We cannot smoke and mirror by outsourcing to (other) 3rd world countries.
Dust off some nukes.....
Kakaaabooom!

Really, is the incentive to make war, or to make/sell stuff?

Then again, In the immediate region ....
I'f I led ROC, I'd want control of Korea, Taiwan and Japan.
