Sony PSP's

Postby andynjue » Sat Aug 25, 2007 1:39 am

Hi everyone, hope you can give me some reliable advice; I am in SH in 5 weeks and a friend who regularly visits china has told my son (who is 10 while I am away) that psp's are cheap in china and that i will bring him one home as a present. My question is are they cheaper in SH than uk or not?
At present a psp here costs approx £130 (1820rmb) - how much would I pay - in rmb - over there?

Thanks in advance for your help!

buy one back home, there a little cheaper here, but are normally hacked(via software) so theycan play copied games( via flash memory card or download.
This invalidates all warranties and if it breaks (it will its Sony), you cannot send it back and it will cost another 100+ to buy a new one.

or you could wait for the new one with the improved screen due in september, or wait for the old one to drop in price!!!

The old one's (only one's right now) are only $169.00 us dollars at present at Circuit City in US.
They are expensive in UK!
We're waiting til the new one's come out and getting one here.

Good Luck!

We got one for my son at RMB1,200 a year ago. You don't have to use the fake games if you don't want to, just buy the real games. My nephew visited from UK this past April also bought one at the same price - no problems so far.

why do you need to buy? you can download your games from torrent or buy a dvd which contains all the iso games.

There aren't any "fake" umd's
Only real ones.

You can download games or buy games here on dvd, and copy them to a memory stick.
Memory sticks are cheaper than UMD's these days, so it makes sense to buy a couple. Make sure the psp is using a low firmware version that allows you to play games from memory stick - the store will sort you out for that.

You'll need to buy at least one real game - I recommend Lumines or GTA if you can find the older version.

To be honest, there aren't that many good games for PSP. That said, the emulation scene is pretty good, and you can play anything from N64 downwards.

I find that the older games are better.

My PSP currently has Crazy Taxi, and a bunch of N64 games, plus ScummVM and Day of the Tentacle (which is an old favourite)

Andy

PSP games come in a small disk encased in a plastic - its called UMD. There are no fake UMDs. The fake games are purchased in regular DVD disks. I think we bought ours for a few hundred RMB for 120 games or so - a stack of DVDs in a small album with a list of what the titles of the games are. You will have to buy memory sticks for the PSP - try to get as much memory space as possible. You will then hook PSP onto your computer, insert disk and then install game into your memory stick. You must have DVD reader in your computer to do so. The seller will show you but be sure to write the instructions down as my young son have had many tears and frustration as I am not computer savvy and had issues downloading the games. As Lawrence said, the seller did recommeded to have one UMD inserted into PSP at all times (even when you are playing the fake games from memory stick) and it seem to help to access the fake games. At initial stage, we bought a sample game UMD from the seller for RMB10 and that worked too. My teenage nephew who is computer savvy, had no issued whatsoever downloading games etc.

I have not downloaded any games from the internet, so can't help there.

We were told that there are two kinds of PSP consoles, as Lawrence mentioned, if you want to have fake games, make sure you tell the seller and have them downlaod couple games in front of you to make sure it works.

Price for UMD (real games) are RMB200 to RMB450 depending on what game, new, old etc. You can normally get a "package deal" getting the console, fake games + memory stick, screen protector + vinyl case for about RMB2k. But console alone is RMB1,200.

You may also want to know that you can watch movie on the PSP and if you have Sony camera, insert memory stick and see your photos there and my nephew showed me how he accessed the internet to check his email using his PSP console.

You may want to try Fu Long Jiang (spelling?) Road where all the computer stuff is sold in Shanghai.

I bought one 2 days ago, found a nice little game shop in Beijing Xilu, near Changde Road. The guy speaks quite good english. I had the psp, a 4GB memory stick and a bag for 1700 RMB. He configured everything, and copied me the games I wanted on the memory stick! Now I can go back to the shop, he can change the games for free. I reccomend you that place!

I have a question about the dvds with games : a chinese friend showed me, he has 7-8 dvds, on which he pretended they are all the psp games existing (maybe 15-20 games by dvd). I asked to the shop, he told me, they are 81 dvds...he showed me a catalog, one dvd only contains 4-5 games. Is that a different quality ? Or maybe on the shop there were cds and not dvds...I don't know...

What we have are disk that you WILL need a dvd drive in your computer to access the games. Each disk has upto 8 or 9 games depending on the size of the games. Every game is different size. Our package came with 20 disks with over 100 games. If you have the disk, you don't need to go back and forth to the seller to reload the games which you want.

assuming it's not a double layer dvd, so the max capacity should be ard 4 gb. Considering 1 big game could range from 500mb-1.2 gb, 1dvd = 4-5 games sounds about right.

isnt there different sizes of dvd's , like the ones that come in 1.2 gig and ones that come in 4.2 gig ?
games are around 250-450 megabyte, so my best guess is that your friend has the big dvd's and the shop has the ones with the smaller capacity

I know that I don t have to return to the shop, but it is 5 minutes by walk from my work, so it's easier to do that than to buy 81 dvds...
