Speeding Tickets in SH

Postby fsttrp » Mon Feb 06, 2012 5:02 pm

So after a long wait getting my new toy, I have been driving around in SH with temp license plate. Now breaking in the car, I went over the speed limit a few time. However, I notice the camera are taking pictures from the front and I only put the temp license plate at the back.
What are the chances that I would get ticketed?
How long does it take for these tickets to be send the me?
And when Chinese driver change lanes without even bother looking, what were they thinking of?

In other news, does anyone know a good, professional mandarin course in Pudong? Started driving here made me realize how little Chinese I have for a guy who have lived for 2 years in SH.

it's unlikely you'll get any tickets while you're on temp plates.
If you do get one, it takes quite a while for them to arrive, i think they all come in one batch once a year, that's what happened to me a few years ago.
What toy did you get?

So you won't get your license revoke or anything like that until that date come?
I bought Golf R, love the car, but utterly disappointed as it cost nearly the same as my 650i at the States. It took forever for it to arrive too; they insisted on getting me the car fresh from Germany. Well, its only for a year before I'm planning to bail out of this place anyway...

No way, your license will get revoked only if youre over the alcohol limit.
Golf R, very nice. Well obviously it was shipped from germany, they dont assemble the R here, like they do with the GTI. Where did you think it would come from?
Yeah imported cars are pricey, if i lived in the states i would change car every year, they're so damn cheap.

When we had our car in Shanghai we got caught on a number of speed cameras, particularly on the Yannan Xi Lu expressway.

We did not know about them as the tickets were sent to my wifes old hukou address, however we found out we had them as the police had informed the car sales place where we had bought the car (Yongda) and they would not reurn the car to us after a service until we had paid the tickets.

I went in and paid, no points just the fees against 12 tickets. Yes the pics were all taken from the front and the policeman smiled as I claimed all the fines, he pointed out I had grown tits..

I think I got away with the points as I did not even bother to start protesting my innocence, the policeman actually reduced some as I was only a few kph over the camera trip.

There was some woman in front screaming, shouting and doing that Shanghai foaming at the mouth thing over one ticket. She got the full treatment.

They want to drive, they want a car, they need to face the consequences.....

As much as I like cars I can see the need for it in China. Too much of a liability. When I think of the number of morons that walk in front of my Giant bike while staring into oblivion...

You mean you can't see the need for it in China.

For the most part you are correct, I usually drove for work which required me to visit factories outside of Shanghai proper or when we needed to go do weekly shop at Metro. Most of the time taxis were the go

I let Mrs SC drive most of the time, she enjoyed it...me, I drove when I had to, I still preferred being in a taxi letting someone else be responsible for the suicide drivers and riders.

The Mrs was driving into our compound when we got hit by a tool on a motor bike. I got the blame! She said if I had not gone aah! or shiiiiat! or whatever else I said as I crapped myself when seeing this guy coming at us she would have missed him!

Always someone elses fault in China.

...and if you were quiet it would have been "Why didn't you see him coming at us" or "you saw him and if you said something I would have missed him"

Its the "missus effect" amplified by the "China Syndrome"

Been there and done that mate
