Spinning zai nali?

Postby armie » Wed Nov 22, 2006 12:41 pm

Has anyone found a good spinning class in Shanghai? A search of all things web and expat-rag related reveals little. I can find something at the Shanghai Racquet Club out in Minghang, but nothing closer. Is there a Spinning club anwyhere? Do expats in Shanghai even know what this is? I kind of get the feeling Spinning might be a North American thing. None of my French friends in Shanghai have heard of it. There are Yoga places everywhere but I'm looking for something more active.

Oops... forgot to mention that I'm looking for one that uses real bikes, i.e. the Shwinn or equivalent.

I think there might be something at the Kerry Centre.

Hi Armie, I attend Spinning classes myself.

If you want a cosy, classy gym, go to Alexander Gym. Not sure of where the branches are, but I do know there's one in Xintiandi.

If you want a budget gym, there's a "neighbourhood" gym in Xuhui Area, which is the one I go to. There're no direct subway stations around, but the nearest station is Damuqiao, and you still have to walk for about 20-30 mins. Or take a bus from Xujiahui Subway. There's Spinning every day at either 7:30 or 7:15pm, depending on which day. The bikes used ARE of the Schwinn brand (which I happen to love too) but they're not in fantastic condition (slightly rusty) but still usable.

PM me if you have more questions :)

Neighborhood sounds a bit far out for me. I'm in Xu Hui too, but about 10 min away from Xu Jia Hui. I may try Alexander, although I've heard it's pricey. Looks pretty high end. I know it sounds really picky to be concerned about the type of bike, but it really does make a difference. Even the old rusty Shwinns are better than using some of the other substitutes I've seen out there.
