Suki milk (多美鲜) - where is it packed?

Postby Medea » Mon Aug 23, 2010 1:20 pm

The other day I bought a package of Suki whole milk 多美鲜全脂牛奶. I was wondering if anyone knows where the milk is packed?

On the package it says that origin of the milk is Germany.
http://www.gaofufoods.com/products_show ... 3%C0%CF%CA

Labelling is Chinese and English, the only German I saw was a sign how to open the package and the controll number "DE NW 402 EG" which tells me that the milk is from Hochwald. (http://www.hochwald.de/ )

Is it a bit naiv to think that it's packed in Germany? (And Shanghai Gaofu Longhui Foods only a kind of importer?)

Thank you for the helpful answers .... :|

Why Thiz...? That would mean that the Le President milk or Muh milk I can buy here are not from France or Germany either?
Mainland, Frico, Landlakes etc. are not Chinese brands, right? But they are also listed on the Gaofu Foods homepage.
After browsing through their homepage I now know that they import food BUT does this mean that they pack the Mainland cheese, the Hochland milk etc. in China or not?!

Chinese have been known to produce counterfeit food products such as fake beer, and more fake beer. I believe it was around 2004 Heineken made a valiant effort to weed out all the fake Heineken beer being sold in Shanghai bars and restaurants. Corona bottles are known to be refilled and recapped as its popular and no need to print a label. Right mat?

My reference to your term in China was not meant to be taken as an offence, if it was I apologise.

Nothing in China is sacrosanct if there is money to be made. Therefore producing imported food packaging and filling it with Chinese food products is not only possible, rest assured its being done.

thiz, no offence taken, really  I think your posts are (almost  ) always usefull.

It was a good thought-provoking impulse and actually I think I should have asked the question to the above mentioned dairy and not posted in an internet forum.
Having said that I will write and ask them if they have a contract with Gaofu foods etc. If I get an answer I will post it here. So watch this space

Medea, you deserve an endurance medal. Do you think you could do a new post on things that you have found that have helped you live here for so long? For example, things that have helped you during your daily life, physical and mental health matters etc. Have you lived in one area, or in different places around China. I as a relative newcomer (three years), and possibly others, would be interested to hear more. Thank you.

I work for Sinodis, the company that imports and distributes President Milk and cheeses from France as well as a number of other international brands like Barilla Pasta from Italy, Weetabix cereals from Uk, O Organic products from the USA. All products are packed in the country of origin and after import are brought to our we store four temperature controlled warehouses, before we deliver them to Retailers and Foodservice establishments like top hotels and restaurants. Sinodis was recently the first distibutor in Shanghai to receive the ISO22000 certification for Food safety. So I know you can definitely trust the imported products you buy which have a Sinodis sticker on the back.

I like cheese and often buy some imported brands cheese. I noticed there were many kinds of dairy foods branded Suki, like cheese, cream, butter etc. But all these products were packed in Chinese and labelled that they were made in different countries.
I checked this brand on the Internet and didn't find the original of Suki. I had visited many famous dairy makers' official websites and couldn't find Suki. So I can conclude that Suki is registered in China by Shanghai Gaofu foods. They imported raw materials from many countries and packed in China and labelled their own brand and distributed in China. For instance, SUki European Cheddar sliced cheese, on the pack, label "cheese from Austria", but they label "Original country: Austria" in Chinese, this information is easy to give customers a wrong infomation that this product is imported from Austria.

Though they label original of raw material, but they try to ignore actual manufacturer and want to show imported brand image.
I hope they can be honest. General speaking, if your products are excellent, customers also will purchase whether they are from overseas or local.

It can be packed in Germany but as it destination is chinese market, that might be a reason of the chinese caractors on the packaging!

I am given to understand from a cousin of mine who lives in Wisconsin and works in the dairy industry that Suki butter is produced and packaged in Wisconsin, but because it is a product for the Chinese market and not sold in the US, it is Chinese packaging.

Also Tyson, Purdue etc - all those big US poultry brands - flash freeze all of their chicken feet and sell them in Asia, apparently.
Cack, my blog is buggered.

Hi,

Bought some Suki dairy at Carrefour Gubei last week , thought I might give it a try.
Avoid this brand as although is in Imported foods should not be there.
If these products are intendend for locals, these should be stored in the local area. We already pay a lot for imported goods so we want the quality as well!
Checked the website as was unsure if this was made in Germany (Suki is not a dairy company but a tools one in Germany!)
