You need to update the firmware in your WiiKey.
Or change the Modchip.

The game works fine.

If you have Japanese Wii then only the Japanese version will work - even an original SMG from the USA will not work.

I had the chip in mine replaced, updated via the wiikey 1.9g update, and Mario runs perfectly now. I gave the Wii to a friend who in turn gave it to another friend who knows people who do mod chip installations, and got it back with the instructions "he (one of the middle men who passed it along) doesnt know what chip it is but try it out and see if that works", they didn't seem to know their stuff, nor do most other shops.

Depending on how bad you want one, you can buy a chip off taobao and tell them to install it, the solder points are more or less the same i think, simple swap job.

Puxi, about 5 minutes in a taxi from Xu Jia Hui. Really small shop, but really good. I got my Wii there. Actually search my posts because another member gave a better description of the location.
