Support groups for expat wives in Pudong

Any support groups or gatherings for expat wives in Pudong? I'm from Singapore, new to Shanghai.

Hi Newbebe,
You can try the Community Centre : www.communitycenter.cn or look through this site for groups tht you may be able to join. The hard copy of this magazine is available at most of the top hotels http://www.cityweekend.com.cn/en/shanghai. There is also a Ladies Friedship group that meets for lunch organised by carol. Just look through some of the posts.

What I notice is that people tend to attract a like minded groups friends and kind of act as a support group. Of course, its not quite as structured as some groups that are more oriented toward emotional support or therapy. There is also a lot of room here ( in Shanghai and especially through the board here ) for individuals to organize their own circle of contacts for whatever purpose. Some people have started the Young Expat Coffee meeting, the Ladies Friendship group, and more like it just by being willing to organize and invite other folks that might be interested in the same thing.

and thank you for providing such good platform for people to link together!

however, i think it's the minorities(women and youth)are talking now! for instance, the Wednesday at Malone's seems to be for guy-oriented bar-going type(no objections), and moms, working or not working, probably not able to go to the Saturday coffee meeting because of kids, so a kind of group for them will be formed which they have subjects in common.

One thing off this topic: I posted a question to you on the speed of this website, recently I found out the speed has been improved. Did you change ISP again? or did you use proxy server? or should I ask this question in another forum?

Hi Newbebe, I'm from Singapore too! Will arrive in Shanghai soon with my husband and two young kids...

As Marydoll posted, there doesn't seem to be any support groups for expat wives/ moms in Pudong. I think it will be great if we start one ourselves!

How about meeting up on the 24th (Fri) or 25th (Sat) of June? In a shopping mall in Pudong or a picnic somewhere...em... is the weather too hot for that?

That would be great friday 24th is good for me, i think it may be too hot for a picnic but we could meet up in one of the malls or starbucks.

Pudong needs some kind of support group for women so hopefully we can get one started.

Sure.... the more the merrier! Like Marydoll posted, maybe we could turn this into a fortnightly or monthly event!

Is anyone planning to drop by the cafe before the 24th? Maybe we can make reservations under 'expat wives group' or something like that. If not, I'll call the cafe a week before the 24th to secure us some seats!

Meihong i'm in Jinqiao too but i've never heard of the internation mother group.

Also does everyone realise that the kids are finished school, so people with kids will have to bring them me included??????

Hey all, welcome to shanghai, I'm from Singapore, and we are here for a yr already. So glad to see so many mommies in Pudong. I would love to meet up with u gals and kids. I have 2 kids, 3yrs old boy and 16 mths old girl. But will only be bringing my girl since my boy will be in sch. wow, looks like going to be quite a big grp for this meeting.
